I bought some flash cards at a garge sale for my DD, who will only be 3 in December. They are rated for ages 5 + up, but this little smartass :grad: showed me!!!
I bought them for the soley to hold up for here to tell me what the picures are while I am breastfeeding. Only one of the things that I can think of to keep her entertained with one hand!!!
I held up the first one and asked her what it was. All I was looking for was the word "tent." She told me it was a "green tent!!!" She has got them all down pat...NO CHALLENGE WHAT SO EVER!!!
I do not mean to brag, but I am really thinking of taking to her to be tested.
She has been able to count to 20, and recite all of the alphabet since she was 2. Has anyone else ever had a child like this???

I'm not sure what the time lines are of all the developmental stuff seeing as how I'm not a parent but how wonderful that she's got all this stuff down!
All I know is what I've learned from watching my friends raise their children - I'm amazed at every milestone, be it early, on time or late, it's breath taking watching them grow up!

Yup, both of mine could recognize both upper and lowercase letters by age two, as well as some words. My oldest was reading at age three, when I took him to the pediatrician for his boosters for pre-k, he read the immunization chart and to this day he is dreading the booster he has to get at age 12 (he is now 8). By the time he started pre-k, his reading was at a third grade level. I believe learning should be self-directed, your daughter obviously is eager to know more since she already knows what you're showing her. Take it to the next level, we used to play a game to pass the time (while I was feeding the baby brother) called "What does it say?" Kind of like what sounds do animals make, but with letters. He quickly learned all the phonetic sounds, which is how he learned to read so young.

My oldest son's IQ score was enough to shock anyone. If we could afford the extra expense he would be in Mensa since he qualifies.
At 12 months he knew his colors, shapes, and had a vocabulary of over a hundred words. I mentioned this to the pediatrician at the start of his 12 month check-up and after he realized that I wasn't making it up he had the other doctors in the group come in and check him out. The nurses were soon to follow, and I was upset that he was being made a specticle.
He kept up this pace and by kindergarten was doing multiplications...IN HIS HEAD. This isn't all he could and did do, but just to give you an idea. The school wouldn't test him in kindergarten and wouldn't even consider testing any earlier. The psychologist said that testing before 1st grade was pointless if you want your child to have a childhood.
I agree. Your child is going to be in school for 13 years and then college. The first 6 years should be for childhood. Even if your child has some level of giftedness, do you want her to be at school next year or sitting in the sandbox having a tea party with her dolls? You would be robbing her of her right to be a kid.
I am very happy with the gifted program he is enrolled in. He goes for 3-4 hours a day out of the school day. The teacher is awesome with the children. Yes, my son was doing some pretty crazy math and freaky science experiments. However, she kept them kids.
