I have a number of DVDs and other items I want to sell on eBay, most of which is fairly inexpensive stuff not likely to net more than fifty bucks max. I can continue get certain items at a little less that half of what I see them selling for on eBay, and wouldn't mind doing that as a hobby second business on the side. I'm pretty handy with a PC and a digicam, and can do marginal HTML through a WYSIWYG editor.

Anyway ... the eBay system seems to be heavily reliant on feedback, meaning past ratings by people you bought from or sold to. Apparently some folks will not buy from sellers with little or no feedback? Obviously I have a chicken-and-egg problem here.

Suggestions? Does it matter? Should I just list everything I have to sell right away and explain my predicament, or alternately sell just a couple and be a dandy seller hoping for good feedback, then list the rest?

Thanks in advance!

Hello!! I have been selling on eBay for years. Yes, the feedback system is important to mostbidders. It is risky to bid on auctions, let alone when the seller has no positive feedback. What you might consider doing is buying several small things on eBay to build up a positive feedback record prior to selling.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Being a confirmed Ebayer (having furnished my entire kitchen, including table, from the site) I've both bought & sold stuff. And you're correct, feedback ratings are very important.

However, if I were going to purchase something, I wouldn't be overly concerned about no feedback, provided the item were a small one (price-wise).

My advice to you (for what it's worth) is to list only some of your items to start. Once you've completed those transactions, with good feedback, then you can dump the rest of the stuff on Ebay. It's good to have more than one item (especially if they're related, i.e., more than one DVD, etc.), since people who are purchasing from you are more inclined to bid on your other items at the same time, in order to save on shipping costs.

Anyway, that's my advice and good luck!:)

I am an experienced Ebay seller with 268 all positive feedbacks. Here is my advice:

Don't worry too much about feedback if you have none or little. People will bid anyway if they want the item.
When you ship the item to the buyer, be sure to tell them you're leaving good feedback for them, and do it. They will likely respond in kind.
Maintain good communication with the buyer. If somebody has a question, or sends you payment, acknowledge quickly. Nobody likes it when they're ignored.
Always be honest. The feedback will come.
