I was just on babycenter.com looking at popular names around the world and it got me wondering what everyone is naming their babies?
If its a Girl: Amelia Grace, I loved the name Emerson but my husband didn't
If its a Boy: I'm still deciding between Aidan, Harrison, and Jack

We only have a girl name: Jackilyn Rose. There is always an issue with boy names though and I will feel much better once we decide on one!

Whatever you name your baby please think LONG and HARD.....My mother and her family were horrible with names, and the kids suffered for it....Here is what I mean.
I (for real) have an aunt named Faydeila....here sister's name is (get ready for it) Melvina, they have a brother named Pearl. My bio grandfather's name was Lacey. My step father (who is named Antone) has sisters named Thelma, Phyllis (which isn't so bad), and Vera, and a brother named Orville.
My own mother named my two older sisters who are twins April & May (they have always hated their names). My mom named my step sister a mixture of her name which is Leah, and my step father's name Tony (short for Antone)....I feel so sorry for my sister....her name is Tonilia (which is pronounced Tone-eel-ee-ya. My step fahter's parents call her (tawn-uh-lee-ya), the kids at school called her toenail. Now that she is an adult she changed her name to Toni.
I guess I was the only lucky one (my name is Jennifer).
I also went to school with a girl named Razz.....We called her Razz cause it was so much better than her givne name (Raspberry). I also went to school with BOYS named Stacey, and Tracey (they caught soo much flack all through Jr. High and High school).

We haven't really got that far. We like Faith and Dakota for a girl. For a boy Dh likes some western guys name something about Marshall Dylan I think. I am not even going there. LOL
I like the name Dallas for a boy but he says no.
I think its back to the drawing board so we can get this settled hopefully before the baby comes this time. lol

Hope you don't mind if I join in I'm not the mama but we do have some names picked out :)
Boy- Joshua Dylan Micheal
Girls names - Cheyanne Maria Nichole
or Kristen Noel
We picked out mostly longer names because it's taken us 12 years to have this little one and this may be the only little one we'll ever have.

I just love all your names. I really like Harrison for a boy.
When I was pregnant and didn't know what we were having it was easy because I had already picked out my names and my hubby just happen to love them both:
Elliot Jeffrey (middle name husbands name)
Isabelle Nicole (middle name my name)
We had a Elliot Jeffrey! I love the name Elliot. But I got a lot of negative feedback on it. People are really rude to tell a pregnant woman that the name they picked out is ugly. You should always say something nice to her even if you don't like it that much!!

Harrison was my Grandmothers maiden name, unfortunately she has passed but I'd still like to include her in my childs life.....My husband seems partial to Aidan though so who knows! I like Elliot, I'm fond of simple names that have been around forever but not everyone has.

All of you seem to have a sensible head on your shoulders and giving your babies such beautiful names!!!!
I too would caution parents to think long and hard about the name of their child!!! My mother gave me a Celtic/Gaelic name: Kathlean = Pronounced = Kath-lee-ann. If it is too hard to pronounce, others will have the same problem.
There was a name that I loved, but I didn't get to name my son it. Nathaniel Adam. For some reason, it was just a smart, solid name. But my "X" said that his initials would be NAP. So, my sons' initials are SKP. I always tease him by calling him SKiPpy!!
Congratulations to all of you!!!!! You are truely bless. I wish a safe, and easy delivery for all of you!!

No creative spelling
The kid will never receive a letter or anything else with his name spelled right. Including a high school diploma. Who do you think is going to get the prestigious job or the votes on the ballot, Jessica or Gezzica? Besides, I really hate it when Shannelle screams at me that I've misspelled her name. Her rage should be directly at her brain dead morons of parents, not an innocent bystander.
No ugly names
The ones like Gertrude, Egbert, Herman, Ethel, etc that are never going to come back again no matter how many Hollywood movie stars use them for their latest bundle of joy.
There is also research that ugly names get worse grades than the more common, "pretty" names. Gertrude got worse grades than Jennifer when teachers graded an essay. Same essay only difference was the student's name.
Watch the ethnic names
There is also evidence that ethnic names don't get called back for job interviews. The perception is that the mother is either white trash or a crack whore, so the applicant must be a loser.
Don't follow the crowd
Check out the Social Security website (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/) to see what are the 1000 most popular names in the past century. Did you know that Olivia is number five for the year? You can see what's popular state by state as well.
It's always good to try and get something that isn't real popular. My niece named her little one Jessica. Six months later that stupid kid fell down a well in Texas. Jessie always had at leat three or four other Jessie's in her class. She went to a one room school.

My great grandma's name was Melvina. Yes, I think its ugly, I just didn't realize it was considered so unusual. As for Stacey and Tracey, I went to school with a GIRL named Acey. That was her real name. Pronounced to rhyme with Stacy.

Yes, think about the current naming trends in your area, and what the popularity of your child's name will be. We named our baby Isabel, knowing it was getting popular, but we still liked it. In her preschool class of 20, there were 3 Isabellas, two went by Bella, one by Izzy, and our daughter who likes going by just "Isabel" Oh, and also, an Annabelle. We had a good chuckle when her class list came out. It reminded me of the 8 Jennifers in my elementary school class of about 50. Interesting 5 of the preschool kids Dads, including my DH are named Jeff.
