Our 5 year old son lost his first tooth yesterday. I remember as a kid (many many years ago) putting my tooth under a pillow or in a glass of water and getting a quarter or something like that.

Do they still do that and how much do you give now.

got her ten- each one after gets a dollar!

There should be rules to this because my daughter sure would be pissed if she found out other kids were getting $20 for their teeth

We are cheap tooth fairies--$1 a tooth. Though the Tooth Fairy felt guilty and sad and gave her $1 last night for the twin blocks she had put in yesterday. She still sounds like she has marbles in her mouth but it's not quite as bad.

My kids get a $1 a tooth except for the last one then it is $5.
I ordered a kit that had letters from the tooth fairy and glitter that I sprinkle on their beds and window sill. Now that they are older they don't believe anymore but I still leave a letter and sprinkle glitter around.

Thanks everyone.

We ended up giving him $5. He was so excited when he woke up and found an envelope with $5 in it. He ran up to our bedroom and got in bed with me. He had to wake me up to show mw what the tooth fairy left him.

He was so cute when I got up, he was asleep on the bed with the envelope next to him and the $5 bill lying on top of it.

Our tooth fairy ain't rich (which is what I've explained to the kids ). They get $5 for the first one and $2 for the others. I've gone through almost all of the teeth with my oldest and my youngest is about to start. Oh, and the dang tooth fairy sprinkles glitter all over their beds and floor. :halo: They get more of a kick out of that then the dough.

I don't have kids yet (due June 28th), but I just wanted to share how my mom always made the tooth fairy so special. She would write me letters from the tooth fairy whenever I lost a tooth. She used a special color pen and colored the letter with glitter, stickers, and ect. I would also write her letters. My mom really got into it and I loved it. I got money but it was the letter I really liked.

I got a dollar for every tooth I ever lost.
I was so excited in the morning to look under my pillow for the money.

I had a special pillow that my gram made for me that had a little pocket. I would put the tooth in there and the tooth fairy would give me 50 cents and a new toothbrush. I also got the glitter treatment. I can't wait to play toothfairy!!!

We do the tooth fairy. Usually it's just $1, but when she had three teeth pulled at once, we gave her five.

I still do it with my 13 year old (this way her little sister still believes). On night she lost a tooth and I waited until the little one was asleep and went into my 13 year old's room to put money under the pillow. She woke up and yelled "What are you doing?" I said "Be quiet, I'm the Tooth Fairy" She laughed and told me I scared her.

I do the tooth fairy. First one was $5 and so was the second because I was unprepared...I planned on just giving him $1. He busted me on the third one...he was faking sleep.

We do, but the kids know that she's not real - it just for fun - and they love it. For my first child's first tooth, I went all out. I found a special real Silver "Tooth Fairy" coin on Ebay and had it engraved with her name and date. It cost probably $30 in all. My poor second child - the night he lost his first tooth, I didn't even have any spare change in my purse. I went to my first child and together we raided her coin collection and came up with a Susan B Anthony dollar. And I didn't even write the date down. Bad mom. BAD MOM!

I do $10 for the first tooth and $2 for the others, but I do give $5 for the molars...cuz the tooth fairy likes them big ;)

Our dental hygenist said (and you can tell your kids) that clean teeth get more money than dirty teeth and teeth that do not have a cavity or filling bring more money from the tooth fairy than those that do. :grin5:

Thanks everyone for your input. We gave our son $5, he was so happy. He had to go to the book store after school so he could get a new book!

Not sure what we will do for the next tooth. I don't mind giving him a little extra if he is going to buy books.
