Plasma HDTV problems

I'm having a few problems and hope someone can help.

First problem... I hooked the cable cord to the TV and some channels have lines through them. I talked with my cable company and they say I need an HD connection adapter. Is there anything I can purchase at the store instead of paying the cable company more money each month??

Second problem.. I purchased an HDMI DVD player and when I play a DVD, there is a buzzing noise. What to do??

Edit - HD tuner is built in. Not sure if this makes a difference.

All I know is that there are expensive wires involved...I swear there are $600 worth of wires behind my husband's TV and he says that he could use a few more. DH's TV has the HD tuner built in...but we'd still have to buy the HD feed from the cable company on top of the digital cable for another $20 a month.....but since we only really need the TV for DVDs we told them not to bother.
