I'm looking after a 9yr old who's currently on spring break. It's a mix of rain and snow outside and I can't get this child to do anything but play electronic games. He's either on the computer or playing the playstation. I told him to bring some toys with him when he came today so he bought his gameboy! He says when he's home he's either watching the tv or playing playstation. I don't want him to constantly be doing this sort of thing in my house but I'm at a loss for an alternative! I would appreciate some suggestions.
We do read together once a day but even that is sometimes like pulling teeth.

How about a museum? Are there any indoor pools you could go to?

Do you live near a cheap theater? My kids have always loved to go see a movie that is almost ready for DVD. They only cost .50 for the first show and $2 for other shows. What a bargain, you can even afford a snack! You might want to check with parent about the movie you pick to make sure they are ok with your selection.
The weather is not great here this week, so outdoors does not work well.

This is a little messy, but we made it for that age group at school
Ooblick
To Keep 'Em Entertained!
1 part water (1 cup)
1 part corn starch (1 cup)
Mix water and corn starch together, and stir.
Ooblick is a strange and fun slime for kids! You can roll it into a ball, and watch it melt back into a liquid! It's hard and stiff, but also gooey and runny, it's amazing! Try it at home!
This is from the Dr. Seuss book of the same name, check it out from your library to read first. I know he thinks he is too old for that book, but they loved playing in the gook. I do not suggest using food coloring, it got on their hands. :worry: You can put your gook into a plastic carton to keep for this week then toss it out or let him have it.
