Safely pumping gas

They said that a spark from static can ignite the gasoline and don't ever remove the nozzel if this happens! Also to ground yourself, touch something metal, like the car first before you pump gas and it won't spark. I saw this reported twice in one week about two different people so it's not as rare as they say.

I've also heard that you should not use your cell phone while pumping gas...I see that all the time :shocked2:

Yep, there was a article printed up a while back about that topic. I never worry about the static because I always touch my car when I am taking my gas cap off. What scares me the most is the people that I see smoking a cigarette while they are pumping gas. A lot of people don't realize its the fumes that can catch fire.

Well, I've never seen anyone dumb enough to stand there and smoke while pumping gas, but I have seen idiots on oxygen smoking. Which, I think is about as brilliant.

Also, if you ever need oxygen for any reason, don't use chap stick. It's got a lot of petroleum jelly which is also highly flammable

When I ride in our Neon, I get a shock every time I close the door. I am careful when pumping gas, but this is a good reminder!
