with the amount of sweeps I enter, I get lots of junk mail that I deleate without opening. Does anyone think they can tell if you just toss their mail? Effect chances?

Not all wins come with the "Congratulations" type subject line. Most of us have learned that scanning emails sometimes pays off big!
After a while, you can kinda get a feel for those newsletters or emails that are just newsletters or ad-filled emails and which ones put their winners lists inside those newsletters and non-descript subject line emails.
So... scan, rather than read, most of your email for a while before you hit that delete button.

I don't think it is possible for the sponsors to tell whether you opened their mail or not. Unless the mail has a link that you must click on to confirm entry (which is pretty rare, i think).
