View Full Version : What's on Tap for Today

September 16th, 2002, 3:36pm
Hi guys,

Well, because of all the problems this weekend, I didn't get much done as far as the new sweep setup is concerned.

The first thing I'm going to do today is change the way the archived rules, notes and rate it! windows open up in the sweep directory. The new windows will slide up from the bottom of the screen and it should make it a little bit easier and quicker to access those features. Then I'm going to change the New Sweep pages in the directory to include all of the new sweeps that have been submitted over the last 30 days. They won't be immediately categorized or thoroughly checked, but they will at least be available to MySweeps right away and it will be easy to quickly add the archived rules. In fact, the New Sweep section of the directory will probably be a little messy until I get the editing interface designed and fully implemented- hopefully by tomorrow or the next day. But once that's done, the new sweeps will be added to the directory in much the same way they always have been.

I've got a lot of work to do and it will probably be a little rough for the next few days, but when it's done, we're going to rock. :cheer6:

You are an awesome dude! I can't tell you how much I love this site and all that you do for us fellow sweepers! I know you're going to paid membership soon and that's cool-you deserve it!

Just hope you take money orders for payment for those of us who are still too old fashioned to use Paypal!

See ya!:cheer: :cheer:

I went on a few other sites when I couldn't get on online-sweepstakes. They can't compare to this. You do a terrific job. When I got back on. I used the paypal to show my appreciation. Thanks alot.

Thanks everybody, again. :) I'll have the new sweeps (and a whole lot of them) up in the main directory no later than tomorrow afternoon. I really wanted to get them up tonight, but I didn't quite make it. :tired:

Tomorrow's a sure thing though, you can bank on it. :cheer2:

Hey there,
You do great work. Relax and enjoy it. NO need to burn yourself out. The people on the site are just wonderful and have been able to explain to me how to get around the site efficiently.
Enjoy the day,

Thanks AGAIN for all you do!! I LOVED this site!!!:grin3:

September 18th, 2002, 9:09am
I just recently started using this site to enter sweepstakes and I didn't realize how addicted to this site I was until this weekend! I have to say compared to alot of the other sites I looked at this one is very well organized and I like the way it is clear about the rules and that people can post comments about the sweeps. It is by far the easiest one to use. I also wanted to say I have just been entering sweeps for two months using only this site and I have won two trips through sweeps listed here.
Just got back from the Vegas one and my sister and I had a blast there.

thank you so much!

September 18th, 2002, 9:15am
YOU THE MAN BRENT! This is the best sweepstakes site I have ever stumbled on and I have been at this for a long time. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication:cheer2:

September 18th, 2002, 9:20am
THANKS AGAIN BRENT!!! You are a genius!! Without you we'd all be up the creek!!! You're right michele---we were going nuts!! Keep up the good work--we all love you for it!! Don't knock yourself out though--take care--we need you!!

September 18th, 2002, 9:48am
:grin5: ...I am just curious, how are you making money off of this site? I am not concerned about privacy or anything, but don't really think you are maintaining this site for free.

Curious in Minnesota.

September 18th, 2002, 10:00am

There is a place for donations through Paypal on the home page. Also Brent's address is listed under the Privacy Policy link. Shortly there will be a paid membership features only put in place.

I can assure you that none of the information given when you register is used for anything outside this website.

Just out of curiousity, how much will it cost to use this site when it changes to a pay-site, and when do you expect to make this change?

September 18th, 2002, 10:49am
The entire site as I understand it will not be a pay site. But there will be special membership only features added to the site that will be.
Brent, please correct me if I have that wrong.

Mare "no worries, mate" Rivera ;)

It'll probably be something like $20 - $25 per year. Most all the features available now will still be available for free, but the paid members will receive several additional features/benefits that will be added in the next month or two.

Most all the revenue this site brings in right now is from a few of the sweepstakes that are listed in the directory [for example, the site earns 50 cents (I think) each time a unique person joins ClubMom<-- a good site and a good advertiser]. Unfortunately, good advertisers like ClubMom are few and far between. There are a plethora of advertisers out there that I would never put on the site because I know they're scams or blatant spammers; I hate pop-ups; and I won't advertise online casinos for lots of reasons.

One of the biggest benefits (besides no longer having to rely on advertisers) of going the paid membership route is that the entire site will be totally geared towards sweepers. If a sweep/site sucks, we can say so. If this site is going to survive (and it will), it will be because it's good and open and friendly, not because I can advertise or spam people to death.

Sure, there's a lot more that I could have done this past year to increase this site's revenue from advertisers. Instead of spending most all of my time adding sweeps and working on improving the site, I could have done a lot more than I have to make money. But this site has never been about me trying to make as much money as I can off of it- it is soooooo much more than that.

OSC is a collaborative effort by many, many wonderful and selfless people. I might be the guy behind the wheel, but this site would be nothing at all without the faith, loyalty and countless contributions of its members. I hardly ever refer to it as 'my' site anymore because it truly has become our site- and it will become even more so with the changes that will be taking place.

This site and the people here have meant more to me personally than anyone will ever know. To say that I am appreciative is an understatement. That, more than anything else, is what motivates me to work as hard as I can to make this site the best that it can possibly be- and I think that in turn is what motivates many of our members.

And let's not forget about the wins. I can't begin to tell you how truly touched I am every time I read about someone winning a prize- especially a prize they would have never been able to afford otherwise. Everything from Shake-Man's BIG $120,000 win to those little prizes most of us win all the time- they're all important because they provide at least a little bit of happiness in our lives. Knowing that I (we) play a small part in that is extremely satisfying to me. I can't imagine ever doing anything else that would be quite as fulfilling.

Anyway, it was a real struggle to make ends meet for awhile, but it has gotten better. The donations have made a huge difference. The idea behind paid membership was originally to reward those who graciously donated to help keep the site (and me) afloat (and it will make the donations tax deductible from what I've heard). But the more I thought about it, the more I realized there will be a lot of things that I can do with a paid membership system that I wouldn't be able to do otherwise. Plus it will be a good way for me to be able to reward (albeit in a small way) this site's biggest contributors. It just makes sense.

BTW, I'm not sure how clear this site's privacy policy is (I threw it together in an afternoon), but you can be rest assured that absolutely none of your info will ever be used, shared or accessed by anyone else. And I've only used it twice to send out emails to everybody- once this past weekend to tell everyone how to access the site while the domain name didn't work and once in January after returning from my hiatus [long story]. You even have the choice to not receive email from me by selecting 'no' for the "Allow Bulletin Board Administrators and Moderators To Send You Email Notices?" option.

I still need an hour or two for the sweeps, I'll make an announcement once they're up.

Thanks again everyone! :)

Thank you too!:cheer: :cheer: :grin5:

I started sweeping in April. On a fluke I entered a monthly for a doll and won for that month...that got me hooked but I haven't won anything since. I see lots of the same people from a group at yahoo that I belong to win constantly...guess I don't hold my mouth right when i enter:laugh: . I'm still trying though:D

All of the junk email that goes along with sweeping just seems to go with the territory.....

The email that you sent out from Online-Sweepstakes to get us back to the site is the first time that I can remember feeling such a sense of relief at being contacted by a web site.

I would much rather get email from this site, even on a daily or weekly basis than be left dangling.

A weekly newsletter might even be a nice addition to the site someday.

I appreciate your judicious use of the information you have on hand and respect the way that you conduct yourself. That is exactly why I have no compunctions about being contacted by you(Online-Sweepstakes) when the need arises.

Sure do hope that all of the changes that you are implementing work out to free up some of your time. Who knows what you'll think up with more free time on your hands??

Email from Online-Sweepstakes is always welcome where I live....:grin5:

wow! hitting the wrong keys tonight, its late, I'm sticking with that!

September 19th, 2002, 12:21am
Take a break?!?! Not for quite awhile. For me the work is just beginning. The new sweep setup will (eventually) free up some time that I used to spend adding the new sweeps each day, but I've got to use that time to work on the site. Maybe you guys don't notice it as much as I do, but there is a ton of stuff around here that needs completed, improved, tweaked, and/or completely redone. Not to mention everything that I'm going to have to do for the paid membership thing.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, I really appreciate it. :smile3:

I have no problem with the email sent by you. In fact,
knowing what is going on is quite appreciated.
I also have no problem with paying for the site. Will we be
able to only use paypal or will plastic also be included to make payment.

September 19th, 2002, 9:10am
...one more question.

Every time I open this site a little pop up appears on the upper left of my screen. It only shows up BRIEFLY and then disappears. Do you know what this is and what it is doing? Is it part of the Online-Sweepstakes.com system?
