A friend of mine who lives in Tasmania has two toy Poodles and a standard Poodle with 6 pups. One of the toys, Scooter, got out of her car somehow and was hit. His neck was broken. He can move a little and wags his tail when he sees her but it doesn't look good. It just breaks my heart. I can't imagine how she feels. Thanks for listening. :(

OMG!!!! My eyes are filled with tears. :frown3: That is terrible. I cannot imagine how she must feel. I will say a prayer for your friend and her little dog.

I am very sorry to hear about your friend's dog. :frown3: I know I would be devastated if anything happened to my dogs, so I will keep the dog and your friend in my prayers and hope for the best. She is lucky she has a doglover like you as a friend she can lean on.

Thanks so much. Scooter is such a sweet little thing. He was the protector of the whole group, barking at every animal that crossed 'his' yard. It's so hard to think about....

Darcy, I wish I could be there but I live in Texas and she lives in Tasmania. Thank goodness for the Internet so I can keep up-to-date on his condition. But I wish I could be there. :(

Yes, I caught the part about her being far away, but you will still be a major source of support for her, even if long distance. Only true-blue doglovers can truly understand how important dogs are and how much they mean to their owners (parents), and how we hurt when they hurt, etc. You are one of those people and will be of great support to her, even via e-mail. :gvibes:

Thanks so much to all of you. I wrote to her and told her 60,000 sweepers are praying for her (after all, we represent OLS, right?). I hope it gives her hope.

Tell your friend to not give up hope. I have a poodle that was severely injured and could not walk. The vet told me to put him down. I just couldn't do that...he's my kid. Well, that was almost five years ago. He is not in any pain, but he can't walk...he scoots. He is a wonderful dog and very happy I might add. I am so fortunate that I did not listen to the vet. Although, if he had been in pain, I would have seriously considered putting him down. Just don't give up hope...sometimes things work out on their own. :halo:

Thanks for your story. You have a lucky pup with you for a mom. Thank goodness our Scooter (!) isn't in any pain, either. And he has reacted to tests, though barely. PMA helps but when you first hear it's so hard to think that way. Thanks, again, all of you.

It worked! Your prayers and good wishes helped Scooter recover. My friend took him to Australia (from Tazmania) to see a specialist. He was so freaked being in the cargo hold, he was standing on his rear legs when she got to him. The doctor said a vertebrae had been dislocated and that he was pretty sure Scooter's own muscles would gently move it back into place. He gave my friend a bunch of physical therapy exercises to do with him. Since they've been home, Scooter has peed and pooped outside (Yay!), and, with the help of a halter, has walked a bit. He even tries to walk on his own and is now eating better. Everyone is hopeful for a complete recovery. So, from me and my friend, thanks so much!

Hugs to Scooter and to your friend! I am glad he is getting better. The fact that he could wag his tail even a little bit meant there was hope for recovery. I hope he is soon back to playing guard dog -- no one takes my gurard dogs seriously either for some reason. :cheer:
