THE OLS RATE OF $59 IS NOW BOOKED

The convention is taking place at the Holiday Inn Convention Center - Airport in Moline Illinois on June 9-12.
However the Holiday Inn is already booked. I have just negotiated the price of $59 a night with the newly remodeled Quality Inn (formerly Hampton Inn) located right by the Holiday Inn. The Quality Inn has a free deluxe continental breakfast, high speed internet access in all rooms, outdoor pool, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board in all rooms, as well as complimentary airport shuttle.
It's gonna be a great time!
I know the convention is pricey for a lot of people, I am hoping tons of you want to come and hang out with fellow sweepers and attend the convention if it is in your budget. If you wanna just come and hang out and not attend the convention, thats cool too - lots to do in the Quad Cities area and the Saturday evening banquet is only $35. Stay tuned to this forum for updated details!
Hoping to meet a lot of you there:)

I just spoke with the manager ~ they recently switched from Hampton Inn to Quality Inn and the booking systems then were saying they were full/overbooked when they went through the transition. I just called a second time after your post to make sure the dates I gave him (convention dates) were in fact available and they are. I will be speaking with the manager again tomorrow when he faxes me the contract to get the $59 rate. We were in the Quad Cities over the holidays and this hotel is walking distance (across the parking lot) from the Holiday Inn.
I will post the code and phone number tomorrow (or as soon as I get it:) ).

Yup I originally tried the La Quinta Inn but got no where with any of them - I have spoken to the Quality Inn manager twice today and he assures me there are rooms.

Hey Ms. KB, do you have an addy for the hotel? I would love to check it out online. See if it's up to my oh so high standards. You know, like does it have indoor plumbing? ;)

I am going to have to wait until the last minute. I wa thinking that four people could split the cost of a rental car and stay at a hotel farther from the event. I am a good driver and would do that for those who are not able to get around. There are probably some cheaper hotels outside the city.

5 nights from the 8th to the 13th is $200.75 if you use the online reservations and use the CLICK 6 RATE.
The weekend is a little higher.
There is an AARP discount if you go through AARP but I found that AAA when I went to San Diego was not as cheap as the online rate.
For those of you with cars there are several good hotels outside the city that are cheap.

Does anyone know if there is a very good Bed & Breakfast in the Quad City area?
I would love to stay here sometime - beautiful on the outside, never been inside:
This converted Romanesque monastery sits upon a bluff overlooking downtown Bettendorf and the Mississippi River. The Gothic-style Abbey, which dates from the late 19th century, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the owners took great care in restoring the home to its original splendor. Ideal for business travelers, the inn features 19 comfortable guest rooms, each of which includes marble bathroom, cable television and dataport; the best guest rooms offer unmatched views of the Mississippi River. Banquet facilities to 325.
The Abbey Hotel (www.theabbeyhotel.com)
This one is also a nice one:
Description: DOWNTOWN DAVENPORT. Located on the campus of Davenport's St. Ambrose, this unique bed and breakfast dates from the late 19th century, when it was constructed as the home of the Bishop of Davenport Catholic Diocese. Today, the beautifully restored Italianate mansion offers guests to the Quad Cities the chance to live in the lap of luxury during their stay. Each of the immaculate guest rooms features period antiques, marble shower or claw-foot tub, and large bed, ceiling fan and en-suite facilities. Conference/meeting space to 125.

I found a great site with info on Quad Cities and a map too.
The main site is http://www.visitquadcities.com/2004/
The map is http://www.visitquadcities.com/2004/map.html and it lists 11 B & Bs.
Thing may be a little out of date like with all travel sites. The names on the map are links to pop up windows that describe the site.
The Abbey Hotel is #1 on the map. It is right above the word on the map "Moliine". Follow Route 74 south to a cluster of number at I-280.
They 29, 10, 27, 26 and 21 on the map. That is where the convention is.
This is their website. http://www.theabbeyhotel.com/
They even have a webcam at http://www.qconline.com/webcam/abbeycam.shtml

Our convention committee meeting was this weekend. We discussed the following information that I have been asked to pass along:
People who have paid to attend the convention are able to participate in all convention activities such as raffles, attendance to prize drawings and speakers, and vendor rooms. The $35 banquet fee (intended for guests of convention attendees) will azdmit a person into the banquet on Saturday evening for food and entertainment.

ROOMS ARE BOOKING FAST AT THE QUALITY INN!!!!
Be sure and get your reservation in as they are filling up fast - I just spoke with the General Manager and we have already gone above the 10 rooms we had set aside for us - so if you are going and want to stay at the Quality Inn - DON'T DELAY:)
kbsocial
January 19th, 2005, 11:43am
I just got off the phone with the Sales Manager - all OLS rate rooms of $59 are booked and they went way above the number of rooms we initially negotiated. They are almost to capacity.
The best price they can give us now is $74.99 Group Rate: OLS at either the Quality Inn 309-762-1711 or Econo Lodge 309-762-1748. The Sales Manager called around to other properties near the Holiday Inn and found many hotels charging $99-$109 for the convention weekend. You must let them know you are with OLS or you will not get the $74.99 rate. Any OLS member who stays at the Econo Lodge with the OLS rate will receive a ticket to come to the Quality Inn for breakfast.
If there are any problems, please let me know. Unfortunately they have had a not so pleasant experience already with an OLS member. The staff has been nothing but helpful and deserve our business and respect. I have a good relationship with the staff I have been working with and would really prefer if people went through me instead of taking matters into their own hands.
That's the latest:gvibes:

I received this PM from a member I thought I would pass on to others:
I saw the new rate that you posted, $74.99. Just thought some peeps might like to know that, if they qualify, they can book a cheaper rate either by calling or booking online.
50+ (Mature Traveler) Rate - $67.49 - $71.95
AAA/CAA Program Rate - $67.49 - $71.99
Rate depends on bed type and room type. If anyone qualifies for these rates, I would check to see what the inn has available before simply asking for the OLS rate.

Thanks KB, also Motel 6 and Quality's chain have online rates that are often the lowest rates around. Some chains offer military discounts too. Last year the Motel 6 online rate at Escondido was cheaper than AAA and other discounts. I cannot remember the name of the other hotel that I stayed for one night but it also had an online rate that was cheaper that AAA.

Sounds a bit pricey for those of us who won't know until practically the last minute whether we're going or not!
Maybe we can sleep in the van and after a day or 2 someone will take pity on us and let us use their shower? Or maybe there is a campground close by? Van space for cheap .If you're short we outta be able to fit at least 4!!! And if you're also skinny (I'm not!) maybe 6 !
HAVE FUN YOU'ALL!!

If you have a van you might be able to get a room outside of town for cheaper. Right now the cheapest is Motel 6 at $220 for 5 nights.
When the odor gets bad a coin will be flipped. Head means you land head first in the Mississippi and tales means you land tail first in the Rock River.
I would let you use the tub in my room but Binski will probably be sleeping in the tub.
How many passengers does your van hold legally? I could use a chauffeur.
