View Full Version : Continental Warrenty win- help!

November 10th, 2004, 3:16pm
I won hotel vouchers for a Mexican vacation! Unfortunately we can't afford the airfare to get there, at least not anytime soon. I already checked and they can't be transferred in any way.

My question is, if I send back the affy and get the vouchers, does that mean I have accepted the prize and will have to pay any taxes? Or does that only happen if I actually use them? I'm thinking of getting the vouchers, then seeing if we can save up for the rest of the cost, but what happens if we can't? Thanks!

Congratulations! You have been selected as a weekly prize winner in the
Continental Warranty Quiz It, Win It, and Drive It Trivia Challenge, powered by

You have won a hotel voucher good for you and one (1) guest for a seven (7) day
and six (6) night hotel accommodations in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Hotel
vouchers are valid for hotel lodging accommodations only. This prize has an
approximate retail value of $599.

AS soon as you fill out and return the affy-that is your acceptance of the prize and you will get a 1099 form for it. However, there are some sponsors that only send out tax forms if the value is $600 and over. Yours is under that-so wonder if they will issue you one.

If you get the vouchers you will have to pay the taxes if they decide to send you a 1099. Did they have you fill out any tax forms like a W-9? Did they ask for your ss#?
