I'm sorry I lost the link...in fact I've gotten lazy and usually just go back to google.com for so many things...just type in the search term Symantec security check, and bam! there's your link.
Anyway, if you don't have anti-virus software (pardon me if I don't shake your hand...ewww!) or, if you're like me and haven't wanted to pay to re-subscribe for virus definition updates from Symantec (the dang things aren't applicable to the free version that came with my computer, and I'm such a cheapskate...I keep looking for a cheap version, which will have one year of free updates) (I'll understand if you don't want to shake *my* hand!) then you can get a free virus scan at Symantec.
It's based on definitions updated as of December 18. I don't know what happens when it finds any, whether it gives any free options for removal (I'm V-negative, kiss me!). And I gotta warn you, it's MUCH slower than your onboard version of NAV. Also, while it's scanning, you can't continue browsing other pages without aborting the scan. It took about 15 minutes on my computer.
There's ALSO an internet security check (other than virus scan) that tests your computer's susceptability to other online risks, like hacking. This one is much quicker (2 minutes on my computer), and does allow you to surf other pages while it tests in the background. For those of you with broadband connections, and modest or NO firewall protection, this might be a good idea. In my case, for instance, I was "safe" from several of the risks listed (it DID mention that my anti-virus needs updating) but it gave the followin risk info:
Scan Description:
Checks whether your Web browser releases information about the site you last visited to other Web sites.
Scan Results:
You are at risk of exposing your Web browsing history to other Web sites that you visit.
To Fix This Problem:
Install a personal firewall program that blocks the transmission of personal information
If you have a personal firewall installed, it may not support or be properly configured to protect this information
