Hi you'all, :hello:
I was born & raised in Wolf Point too. My parents are farmers/ranchers North of WP, still there but retired and the brother & his boys run the place now. I got married & moved to Missouri in the mid-80's, i'm the youngest. I now am living in the southernmost part of Kansas, just a hop from Oklahoma. I went to school in Missoula in the early 80's, prolly around 82 & 83, so i'm very familier with the beautiful Bitterroot Valley, Lolo, Florence, all those little towns up & down the valley have fun saloons, oops, not that I would know that heh heh :halo: My husband's daughter & son-in-law just moved to Missoula MT (from Missouri) a few months ago. My hubby talked to her a couple days ago and said he doesn't think she likes it there, I say 'what's not to like'? I've been to many states, but IMO western MT, more specifically, the Glacier area, Kalispell, Whitefish, ect, is the most beautiful
place i've ever seen, I could die happy there.

Mistzee--I LOVE Missoula! I went to law school there, and we owned a home there while our kids were in their undergrad. I'll be there this month, too.

I used to drive up and down the Bitterroot all the time. My husband used to work mainly out of Victor.

Feline Fantastic & I have got to know each other on this site--she's from WP and I am originally from Glasgow. I work mainly out of Wolf Point. We live a few miles from there.
Keep in mind this is all over in extreme Northeastern Montana.

Chloe! It's most interesting that your dad is from WP! And that you know people there! PM me if you want. I"m curious as to who they are!

Reddy, Roy is over by Lewistown, I do believe. It's just an it of a bit of a town!

Tinkerbell, I'm sure we pm'd once awhile back, too.

We live here cause we WANT to and we LOVE it.

How awesome to have a fellow OLSer in Montana. I live in Corvallis. Just built a house up Hamilton Heights. Montana is the most beautiful state. I have been around Flathead Lake on my way to the water park in Columbia Falls a couple years ago. I love this state!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully one of us Montanans will win big this year. I can't believe I saw no posts from Montana in the Local Flava until I posted (unless I missed one)!!!

My cuz owns the Bohemian Corner Cafe near Roy, if you know it. My grandparents homesteaded out there, and my dad was born in Big Sandy in a sod shanty back in 1913. I'd dying to go out and visit.

OMG Reddy! Everybody knows the Bohemian Corner (with an s it's often said). It's a landmark!

Also, I must say that quite a few "native" Montanans complain about all the "rich" Californians moving in. I'm not one 0f them, for sure. My Mom came to Montana by way of MN via California! Not to mention, didn't we all come from someplace else?

I have many DEAR friends in California! Move on out here, I say! Ok, so I know some people move here then complain to the locals that Montana is not like "back home". Oh well, so what.

Please, anybody from OLS coming to visit, please let me know & perhaps I can meet you someplace. Driving 8 hours is NOTHING to us. :gvibes:

I won a trip to Deadwood, SD awhile back. It had no transportation, but I didn't care cuz we drive on down there.

We got hotel, meals, free stuff, etc., and we had a blast!

Yep, isn't that true about people in Montana wnating the Californians to go home. I don't think it has anything to do with them being rich. I still have much loved friend and family in California, but I came to Montana to get away from Troubled California and have my kids go to schools with better people in them. I now, that nowhere is perfect, but the more people, the more crime, that is why I hope people don't keep moving here. I don't think it's anything to worry about though, because most of the people that move here from California, go back.

Great to have so many of you post! Let's keep this thread alive!
I know many people that have moved here from California. We also moved here from California, my husbands job relocated here so we all came with him and it is wonderful and peaceful and my car hasn't been stolen yet...ha...that is just a joke...in Cali our cars got stolen 3 times. We love it here!
I haven't won anything big yet but I love the small prizes!

Thanks! I will let you know. I have only been to Missoula twice but I am dying to go there to shop, they have a mall right? And if we ever get up your way I will let you know that too. My husband travels a lot for work so we are usually all over the state and most of the time I go with him except this week he is in Arizona. I was thinking that maybe in the spring or next summer we can have a small OLS get together for who ever would be interested, I think it would be fun.

suelee000, I have an uncle in Great Falls, my moms brother. I haven't seen him in years, but my folks go to GF all the time to visit him.

I've got a brother there and visit him as often as I can. By the way, he won a $9k plasma tv in a sweep earlier this summer, so someone in MT is winning. :)

I was raised in the Bitterroot Valley (Hamilton) and lived there until we had to move to Arizona in 1987, because my son is blind and multiply handicapped and we needed a really good school for him. We come back every summer and stay for 2 months. All my family and friends are still there. We have been looking for a day program for him there, but no luck really, we are hopeful that one day we may be able to move back to Hamilton or Missoula.

Too awesome for words!!!!! I was just telling my mom on the phone about this Montana thread and about your cuz and the corner, she knew what I was talking about, even with her slight senility/dementia lol!!!!!! I can't believe it! My parents are elderly (70's), don't own a computer, wouldn't know what one was if it jumped up & bit 'em, so when I tell her about us Montanans all 'chatting' online & 'finding' each other, it totally blows her mind!

My aunt from Michigan is in Montana this week visiting. She's about 75 (i think) and is online every night IM'ing my cuz, me, and my two brothers in California. I know a lot of older people are afraid of computers, but I think many could catch on pretty quick. It blows my mind sometimes too. I tell people about OLS and the people here all the time. I think of many of you guys as real friends.

We got our first snowfall on Saturday (here in the bitterroot). Last night (halloween) was actually the nicest one since I have been here (4 years). Usually our feet our frozen and we are walking through snow down in Hamilton, but last night wasn't so bad. It was pretty nice. We are hoping to go sledding in Skalkaho this week?

We got some more snow Sat and Sun. Halloween was so much nicer than last year! My mom was visiting from Cali so it was nice for her to see the snow. We also drove up to Glacier Park which was beautiful and so peaceful!

I have to bump this thread up to get more action!

Okay, so I just won a trip. I am super excited. I have always wanted to win a trip and I won one! Yipee! I leave for Nashville this weekend....so excited! I haven't been doing much sweepstakes lately because we just got back from Disney World (vacation) and now I am busy with school but hopefully after the holidays. My dream prize would be a trip to Hawaii or a new stove! Or someone to watch my baby for the day...ha!

I've just been sitting back reading the Montana posts as I live nowhere as scenic as Big Sky or Missoula or Kalispell. It's just warm and dry down here in the Banana Belt of Montana (Billings). We probably don't seem to win very many prizes cuz there are so few of us. My grandson won a trip to California this summer and I have previously won trips to Orlando, San Francisco, San Diego, and a Bahamas Cruise (it's been too long now though). I gave up sweeping for 6 years and just got back in late last spring so look out now!

LindaKay, we just flew back from Billings on Friday, Dh had a company X-mas party at the Sheraton that we went to. I was shocked at how big Billings was! It was so much bigger than I imagined. It reminded me of Reno. We also drove to Havre on Sunday (have you been there) and the drive back was scary! Congrats on all your wins, that is awesome!
Well, we went to Nashville and it was amazing! Saw the Titans play on Monday night football and had so much fun! We were there for 2 nights and we got to take our 2 friends along. This is my first big win. I have been sweepstaking on and off for 20 years. My husband still can't believe that the trip was paid for. I told him to enjoy it now because I probably will never win anything as big as this again!

compared to most of Montana. It is like living in a city almost (except there is little or nothing to do). Like I said, unfortunately it is not as scenic as most of the state but it is my home. I love to travel (especially to where it is warm and they have water.) Sweeping (and winning) allows all of us to experience the outside world (even if they think we still ride horses and play cowboys and Indians). So many of the people that I have met on my travels think that we live like our ancestors that it amazes me; it is hard to believe that all of you out of staters had the guts to even consider moving here. Good luck to all and lets at least one of us make it to the Hall of Fame!

OK, you Montanans. . Montanians? You guys - I'm gonna do it. Delta is offering some really good deals. I'm flying out to Billings, renting a car, and gonna drive up to Roy to surprise my cuz. When is a good time? How are April, May or June out there? July is too close to our family reunion in michigan. March - well, March is cold. Which do you think would be best - April, May, or June? :jet:

feline~ fantastic
January 7th, 2005, 6:29pm
April is good for this year, cuz that's when i'll be there!!! We already got our tickets from Delta, & we're flying to Billings as well. :jet: We offered to rent a car to drive home to Wolf Point but dad's insisting he'll pick us up, so we'll wait & see on that, if he can't leave mom we'll rent a car. Reason we're going isn't a happy thing though, dad says I need to come home as soon as I can due to mom's rapidly declining health, he insists it's not an emergency but should be within the next couple 3 months or so, April seemed the best for me & hubby's schedules, course we'll go sooner if she takes a sudden downturn :frown3: April's still fairly cold up there if I recall, it's been 25 years since I left, memorys shot! Been home lots since then but usually go in July, never April, brrrrrrr :4kb: It would be so cool if we could meet. :smile9: Another OLSer lives near W.P. too that i'd love to finally meet :chat:
