MySweeps & Subscriptions - Important Update

The site should be fine now, if you had problems with MySweeps or any other page in the sweeps directory before I made this post, please give it another try.

If you still have problems with MySweeps or any other page in the sweeps directory, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and then hit the F5 key. That will force your browser to do a hard refresh to clear out any cached files. You shouldn't normally have to do this, but whenever you run into any problem with a web page, any web page, hitting the Ctrl & F5 key is the very first thing you should try.

If you're still having any problems after (hard) refreshing the page (the web page(s) you're having problems with), please reply to this thread with the details (operating system, browser & version, what you see, etc.) and I'll get it taken care of asap.

I'll have an updated MySweeps Guide as soon as I can.

If anybody is still due a subscription for any reason and you still don't have credit, please send me a PM. If you paid by snailmail, you probably didn't include your username with your payment. I'll need to know your full name and date of payment (or your best guess). I'll get your account credited as soon as I can.

I'm also going to add an additional month to every subscription that was made before yesterday (June 15th). I'll have a lot more info about that and a whole lot of other things in a future post, once I get everything with the site squared away.

Are you using a pop-up blocker Kym (or anyone else with problems on a recent browser)? A crappy pop-up blocker might blindly block any code that's triggered on the event I'm using now to create the cookies in IE. It's a better system, and it does work. Because you have IE 6, there's probably a setting or another program that's blocking it (that event). The only possibility that I can come up with right now is the pop-up blocker. Do you have any other helper programs or toolbars running in your browser? Have you tried clearing your cache (Temporary Internet Files)? Anything out of the ordinary about your setup?

I believe I know the reason it's (MySweeps) not working for IE on the Mac as well. Has anybody on a Mac, gotten it to work with the latest version of IE (5.2.3)? I realize those of you with Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x are limited to 5.1.7. But you should be fine once I figure out exactly which versions of IE for Mac work. I've seen that 5.1.7 doesn't. If someone can verify 5.2.6 I can make an adjustment on my end and it should work (entry tracking and all) for most of the recent IE for Mac versions.

The only problems I've seen with MySweeps, have been with WebTV (which should now be fixed), and some IE browsers, particularly anything older than IE 5.5 for Windows (5.0 has been mentioned, but that's a notoriously buggy browser and you should upgrade to 5.5 at least for that reason alone) and of course IE 5.1.7 on the Mac.

Those problems with MySweeps will all be fixed as soon as I can be sure of exactly which IE versions support the bit of code that isn't supported by those particular browsers. Let me say this now, if your particular browser of choice has a version number that's more than a couple of years old, you need to upgrade. If your browser is 6 years old (ie. IE 5.0), you can not expect advanced features like the subscribers' version of MySweeps to work flawlessly, you're lucky if they work at all. Browser companies don't just put out upgrades for bug fixes and security patches, they add new features and capabilities as well- features and capabilities that you need to have in order to take advantage of all the features of OLS. I'm real good at what I do, but I ain't no magician. I've got some links to most of the major browser download pages at the bottom of this page:

The issue with the garbled OLS web pages from this morning (11:15-ish) was me updating MySweeps. It was only temporary and as long as you weren't viewing a cached web page (could be your browser's cache, or possibly your ISP (ie. a proxy connection, like AOL). Pressing the Ctrl and F5 keys at the same time (for Windows computers, I'm sure Mac has an equivalent keyboard shortcut, but I don't know what it is) will force your browser to fully reload the web page you are viewing at the time. I would assume the Ctrl & F5 keys would work in AOL's browser because it's based on Internet Explorer. AOL does cache web pages for their users, but I wouldn't think that would mean you couldn't fully refresh/reload a web page (and associated files). I've got an idea of a work around if AOL or other users are continuing to see the garbled pages.


If MySweeps isn't working for you and you are a subscriber, you do have the option on your "Member Options" page in the sweeps directory (link is in the upper-right corner select menu when you are in the sweeps directory):

There's a checkbox on that page that you can check (make sure you save your changes by clicking the "Save Options" button) to use the basic version of MySweeps that's available for all non-subscribers. As a paid subscriber, you can still save unlimited sweeps in MySweeps, but the more advanced features such as the entry tracking won't be available. You can switch back and forth to try it if you want to, you won't loose any sweeps or other data. If neither the subscriber or non-subscriber version of MySweeps works in your browser, please let me know by posting a reply to this thread. Please provide your operating system, browser and version number. If MySweeps worked in your browser before, I'll be able to get it working again, I just need your help in tracking down exactly which versions of which browsers work and which don't.

Any problems with recent IE for Windows browsers, 5.5 and up, are probably going to be an issue on your computer somewhere, please see my first paragraph again if you fall into this category. A post about the problem would also be appreciated.

All the sweeps in "MYSWEEPS" still have the red (-) bar so I am unable to delete them. I am on a mac and the CTRL F5 doesn't work.

I cannot add new sweeps either, or at least they still appear to have the (-) sign.

Ctrl+F5 worked like a champ. Love the date/time stamp feature in my sweeps. it will help so much on 24hr, weekly, etc. I have found it also handy if you get interupted during an entry session. much easier to see where to resume entries. Also is great for going back to check on sweeps that you had to skip because of a problem on their site. All the new features have been well worthy the wait. Thank you for the additional month also.

I logged out, logged back in, cleared my cache and hard refreshed. I'm still unable to use mysweeps. It won't restore from backup and will not add new sweeps. I've tried hitting the little disk at the top of the page...it just keeps defaulting back.

I've still got a mess. No way to add or delete sweeps. SOme is showing up dark green. THe standard info of my user name etc tha appears on each page is mixed in among the sweeps listings. I tried F5 with no change. I've got windows XP. I'll try shutting down completely.

I think you have to hold CTRL and then press F5. It's a harder refresh than just F5. Good luck!

lululisa, did you go to the web page that's jumbled and press the Ctrl and F5 keys down at the same time to do a hard refresh? You could also try clearing your Temporary Internet Files (your browser's cache).

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files... and delete all your Temporary Internet Files.

I am a Mac OS9 user, I access the site using IE 5.1 and am still having problems with Mysweeps.

1) When I initially go to Mysweeps I can see the top of my list and poof in a second it’s gone.
2) The sweeps that I have saved in Mysweeps are no longer marked with a green check but rather with the red minus.
3) If I click "notes" the little thingy spins and spins until I eventually have to force quit IE and start again.
4) When I click "add" the last entry time is stamped and the amount of entries goes to 1. When I click the save icon, I am taken to the page that says your info has been saved. But when I get back to the Mysweeps page last entry is blank and the entries have gone back to 0.

I am not sure if it is just my computer or if there are other Mac users having the same trouble. I would appreciate any advise/help that you can give.

LOL the good news is my alternate way of getting to the site is WebTv and that is now working perfectly :D

Alright, since I haven't heard from any IE for Mac users who have had success with MySweeps, I went ahead and made the change that I beleive will fix the problem. I won't know for sure until I hear from Mac users, but MySweeps should now work for any relatively recent version of IE for the Mac.

You may have a caching problem if it doesn't work for you now. I'm not familiar with the process for the Mac, but you'll need to make sure the web page completely refreshes/reloads for the changes to take effect.

It's the red circle with the white bar in it next to the title of the sweep. Click it and it turns green, letting you know it's in MySweeps. You have to save all your adds before you close that browser window, though. You can either click MySweeps or click on the little diskette at the top of the page. Good luck!

I haven't had any problems here at the "Home" page, but as soon as I click on to any other category, i.e., "new sweeps", "my sweeps", I am getting an IE Script Error box (which at other times this has appeared on screen has always gone away after I clicked on "no") but the error box will NOT disappear and I can't access any of these categories to enter sweeps. I tried the CTL F5 that was mentioned, but nothing happens. It started at the office at lunch time and I thought it was my computer. However, when I got home and tried to get into "my sweeps" and "new sweeps", the same error message appears and won't go away. I'm frustrated. Please help. Thanks.

Ok, I got rid of all the green garble. Now the problem with roboform...it comes up just fine for new and expiring sweeps, but when I try to use it on MySweeps, it doesn't come up. I re-loaded Roboform thinking that was it. Nope. Any suggestions...

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm on my office computer right now. When I tried to access "new sweeps", I get the following IE Script Error message: "Line 53; Char 1; Error Object expected; Code 0; URL: http://new.online-sweepstakes.con/new/2004". I wrote down the error message last evening when I was using my home computer, but forgot to bring it with me to the office. But the message was similar ... the URL would be the same except for when I tried to get into "my sweeps", then I guess the ending would be different. I still can't get rid of the error message box. I click on it ... it does a very quick blip off and comes right back and does that over and over and over. I've tried the CTL F5 and that doesn't work. My IE here and at home should be either 5.5 or 6.0. My Windows here at the office is Windows 98 and at home its Windows ME.

I am definitely NOT good at this sort of thing, so any assistance you can give me so I can once again access the rest of the site would be very much appreciated. Just please remember that I do not understand most of the technical aspects of a computer, etc. so you will probably have to be pretty specific in what I need to do.

I will check back later for your response, and thank you for your assistance.

P.S. I tried once again to get into "my sweeps". Each time I clicked onto the IE Script Error message, it blipped off and gave me different info than above. I just kept clicking and clicking, and it FINALLY stayed off and I had a strange format with a green background. I tried the CTL F5 again a few times and "my sweeps" info imaged in the correct format. I'm going to go back into "my sweeps" and hope it has stayed that way. If not, I'll come back and let you know. But, hopefully, it has fixed itself. Thanks for all your help. You must be going crazy trying to respond to all of us who have been having difficulties.

My own update: I think I might have figured this out now, Brent. I think I can get the date/time stamps to save as long as I use the little disk icon to save what I've done on that page. Is this correct? and is this how you intended the add date/time feature to work? If so, is there any way the date/time stamps can be saved automatically so that there's no need to click on the little disk icon? If you get a chance to answer this, I would be most appreciative. Thanks!

Update again: The date/times are still not saving. Does it depend on how you leave a MySweeps page?

I'm on a Mac (running OS X) and using IE 5.2.3 and I'm still having trouble with MySweeps, even with the adjustments. I did try refreshing my cache, but that had no effect.

At this point, the green/red buttons are not working, I cannot get into notes, I cannot add a date/time stamp (it appears as if I do, but then disappears), and the first sweeps on any page appears with a white space blocking it out (which will sometimes disappear when the page is refreshed, sometimes not).

Please let me know if you have questions. I'm excited about these new features -- I'd love to be up and running!

Each page i go to to enter from is coming up misaligned (one sweep is above the online sweeps logo) and then the entries are all crammed together and green background colored links and making it very hard to read. It looks like maybe a page format error is what my guess is. Everything was fine til late in the day yesterday. I hope this is a simple fix:0)

I am still having major problems! I have sent two messages to Brent that are unread - is there a senior or master sweeper who can help? I have two pc set up and neither will ungarble to sites! One system is windows xp - the other windows 98, I also tried shrinking the screen and pulling up mns and exploring through there and it still does not work. I do have the updated 6 netscape explorer and one system is norton and the other is macafee. The only thing they have in common is aol 9.0 - NOT optimized. I did do the f5 and no change - I am having withdrawal! Have not been able to access a single sweeps since late Wed. night when I tried to check on the new ones coming out - and I did a refresh also..just NO LUCK at all!! HELP!!! I am a paid member also....

Regarding deletion of entries in MySweeps - when clicking the icon to delete, it goes from 'red minus' to 'green plus', and if I click it once more I get a dialogue box asking for confirmation of deletion. If I click yes, the MySweeps count (upper left corner) is changed to "MySweeps: NaN" (and the sweep is *not* deleted).

goodluck03330, just a thought. Do you have a keyboard that has more than one job for your function keys? For example my F5 button can be 'Open' or 'Refresh' depending on if I hit the F Lock button or not. If you have an 'F Lock' button, try pressing that first then doing Control + F5 :)

Since this is a business - in normal cases I would call tech support - or get a response from the owner/webmaster/tech support. But I'm still stuck in limbo.

I DQ'd myself from at least 3 sweeps today because I already entered them. Since I don't have any green check marks - just a little yellow box at the bottom that won't save dates/times, etc. It's super hard to see what I've entered.

Sorry if I sound a bit b***chy but I think I have a valid point here.

Green checks might not sound like a big deal - but when they are not there you have a heck of a time figuring out if you've entered or not. :mad2:

So - No - My access is not just fine. But to the powers that be it doesn't really seem to matter - even though this site is now a full fledged business.

There are a lot of threads so I don't know if this one has been addressed. If it has, I apologize for not reading all the threads, but I've been pretty busy. The problem I am having since I sent in my membership fee is that online-sweeps is very slow to download. Even when I click on the notes button it's slow, when I add new sweeps it's slow and also when I go from page to page of "my sweeps" it's slow. It's slow when I try to keep up with my entry totals, so I don't even use that now. I don't know what to try. This only happens on the online-sweeps and no where else in cyper space with my computer. I just paid for a membership. Is there a form that shows me the 20 - 30% of contest that are just for paid members?
I've looked everywhere and can't find any info on this.

k.b. any update on when the mac problems will be fixed, or have they been fixed and I dont know about it? The issues are still the same. All me sweeps in "mysweeps" are still marked in green (-) which does not allow me to delete them. My notes are still locking the screen, and I also not utilize the entry tracking system.

I don't mean to rush, just wondering if I have missed a fix?
