Oh - I just put that in there for fun. They only had a couple poll results compared to vietnam, but there were very similar.

736 dead U.S. soldiers as of today. I think that includes the ten killed today.
And this war will be the best recruiting tool al Qaeda could ever have.

How about we give this war a new name, since some people don't seem to like it when you compare it to Vietnam?
Vietsand?
Iraqinam?
Is that better?

I was in Vietnam. And day by day it is the same story. Will we ever learn. We can not fight a gorilla war, we don't know how and if we did know how we couldn't because we have to answer to those at home if we try.
Look at the poor soldiers heading for court martial for the prison atrocities. I don't approve but if we want to win that's the kind of thing we need to do.
All you people who said get um and that was 74% of you, what did you think this was a game. This is lives. This is a war, blood, guts, lives, cruelties, and atrocities.
This is not a face to face battle (same as Veitnam) it is a faceless enemy. Shoot now, man, women or 5 yr old, think later or you may be unable to shoot later.
Don't want to fight like that. Then we need to get out head between our knees, again.

Outsourcing torture now?

US military in torture scandal
Use of private contractors in Iraqi jail interrogations highlighted by inquiry into abuse of prisoners
<snip>
According to lawyers for some of the soldiers, they claimed to be acting in part under the instruction of mercenary interrogators hired by the Pentagon.
(snip>
One civilian contractor was accused of raping a young male prisoner but has not been charged because military law has no jurisdiction over him.
<snip>
One of the soldiers, Staff Sgt Chip Frederick is accused of posing in a photograph sitting on top of a detainee, committing an indecent act and with assault for striking detainees - and ordering detainees to strike each other.
He told CBS: "We had no support, no training whatsoever. And I kept asking my chain of command for certain things ... like rules and regulations."
His lawyer, Gary Myers, told the Guardian that Sgt Frederick had not had the opportunity to read the Geneva Conventions before being put on guard duty, a task he was not trained to perform.
I heard this guy Frederick is a prison guard here in the states? :frown3:

Saying the CBS report is like the Guardian report is like saying an icecube is an iceberg. :cool2:
And it's not really CBS, but 60 Minutes II... (60 Minutes Lite).
And, the Guardian dug deeper, past the "we're outraged" response we got from our Military commanders.

The Guardian took a story that is three days old and contained all the pieces. The original story was first broadcast three days ago. Give anyone three days and you'll see another side. Read today's headlines, read yesterday's headlines, then tell me the Guardian provided you with more information than the U.S. media provided.

My comment was a generic comment on reporting by the US media. Notice I didn't link it to anything specific.
As per the article by The Guardian, would you have preferred I posted a US link? I happen to like The Guardian...
