Ok, folks, time to chime in. What were your thoughts on tonight's show?? I missed most of Jennifer's song, and then I hear Randy say it was the best of the night. I thought LaToya rocked as usual. Poor John Stevens :nono: and Jon Peter :nono: ......didn't care for either of them tonight. Anyone else??

I never realized how difficult Elton John songs are to sing!
Bottom 3: JPL, John Stevens & Camille
George Huff was awesome, as usual!

Oh man, I thought Jennifer was awesome as usual, dh & me have liked her from the beginning. Latoya is so very classy, elegant, and she's got the most beautiful voice i've ever heard, George I just love no matter what he sings and obviously he's got tons of fans, DH got up and started doing the 'dip' with him when he sang, scared the heck out of me, yikes! and Fantasia can flat rock! I love her! She totally can sing her hiney off, she's so great! So diva-ish --sounds like Aretha Franklin, ya baby!! I love it!! The thing is, the very first week out of the chutes I thought JPL kinda sounded like Elton John, in fact I mentioned it to DH, but when he actually gets to sing Elton, he didn't do it any justice, I think he should've been gone 3 weeks ago . Little John blew it for me the last 2 weeks, much as I like him, he shouldn't still be there. So to sum up my opinion, if I was choosing the top 4 tonight, it would be Jennifer, LaToya, Fantasia, and George. Runner-up would be the cute little Hawaiian girl, can't think of her name. But to me she did aaiight!! Unfortunately after last week, I no longer have any faith in America's judging of musical talent, voting Amy off, and worse, Latoya being in the bottom 3. I almost dread watching tomorrow night, I know i'll cry from here on out when they get voted off :sob: :sob: :frown2: :frown7:  Oh, I totally thought Camille sounded baaad tonight! EEK!

I agree totally. I think John Stevens proved he can't sing rock. He is a slow song crooner. I don't remember a contestant being so popular so early in the competition as George is. I know it's early but if someone asked me who I think is going to win. I say George will. He has a great voice and people love him. I thought LaToya, Jennifer and Fantasia all sang great tonight. I like Diana and Jasmine but they didn't do their best tonight.

For the first time, I thought Jennifer rocked! Wow. To sing that Lion King song properly, you definitely need to belt it out the Jennifer way. I can totally see her on a Broadway stage now.....
Latoya was beautiful! I disagree w/ Simon: I've never been to a wedding with somebody like her singing. If her album came out tomorrow, I'd buy it!
Jon Stevens got a mini Clay-esque makeover with his mussed red hair and matching jacket, but he sounded painful to me, especially during the high "La la la las"
JPL....um, I liked his jacket too. Looks like something fellow hobbit Elijah Wood once wore http://always.ejwsites.net/04gg.html
Jasmine, my fav did good, but it wasn't her best. I hope the sun doesn't go down on Jasmine tomorrow night!
Camille, was painful tonight as well. The "ahhhhhh" part of her song was AHHHHHHHHH! :shocked3:
George, I like him and I like his personality but that ever present smile is reminding me of Matt. I got alittle dizzy watching him bounce up and down in his song LOL
Diana...same type of song choice for nearly every theme: bouncy, cutesy, energetic. She always seems to add "Come on!!" somewhere in her songs too...
Fantasia "Yeah, yeah" Barrino....I just don't get her.
It was interesting to hear Elton's comments before each contestant performed too. Can't wait until tomorrow night!

Oh dear, oh dear!! Save for a few outstanding performances ( I love George, Jennifer, and Fantasia- I think George will be the last man standing soon) those kids were destroying all my 70's Elton memories.
I wish one of them had sung "There Ain't No Shoestrings on Louise". It is little known and one of my favorite early Elton campy tunes, and I don't think they would have butchered it so badly.
I am really fond of those kids but they shouldn't have done that to me!! Thank God for George, Fantasia, and Jennifer. I think they will do well singing anything.

I was hoping someone would sing Daniel, one of my fave Elton songs.I think the best 2 tonight were George and Jennifer,I didnt like George when the show started then he sang Sitting on the Dock of the Bay so well and keeps getting better each week that he is now my favorite, bounce and all.Jennifer really brought it tonight,Fantasia did well so did Latoya and I liked Jasmine,I think either Camille or John will go tomorrow,I felt bad for John,he did try like Paula said but it wasnt the right song for him,I do like his voice though, remember though he is only 16 and that is a lot of pressure for a 16 year old.I too am scared about tomorrow after last week when someone went who shouldnt have.

My, Oh My, were some of them pathetic tonight, or what? I'd say 3, not just 1 should be sent home tomorrow night...put them (and us) out of their misery now.
I voted as much as I could for poor Diana. Did anyone notice Paula's remark to Diana...about her health? Diana sounded not-so-great tonight because she's sick...I like her and she definitely should NOT be in the bottom 3...but she probably will be.
I was so looking forward to Elton John music tonight....turned out to be rather disappointing and some of the songs I barely recognized. :rolleyes4
Maybe AI should think about bringing the "She Bangs" guy back....he's sounding better and better these days.

Of the 9 left, 5 of them were off their mark last night. The only ones that were worthy last night were LaToya, Jennifer, George and Fantasia. How about those comments from Elton John? HE thought Jennifer was the best and would give Fantasia and LaToya contracts now. How great was that??
SO, of the bottom 5....JPL and John Stevens will continue to surprise us and not fall in the bottom 3. They have quite a fan base that supports them. I still love JPL and want to see him stick around some more but this was his worst yet and I could understand if he was voted out. Diana is a tough one, she has been great and less than average. Last night was her worst too. Tough call. I didn't vote.

Botton three: George, JPL & John Stevens. George looks like he ought to be a comedian or on a movie. As for singing, he is average compared to some of the others. Jpl and JohnStevens are out of their league too! THE CHICKS ROCK! :cheer7:

My bottom three picks for tonight, (hopefully), are:
JPL
John
Camille
I agree Deborah62, I was waiting for someone to sing "Daniel" too, also one of my fave Elton songs. I think there's not an Elton song I DON'T like actually,-- i've always been his #1 fan!! Elton, you rock!

OMG, I was so embarrassed for John when he was singing the "la la la la la" part in Crocodile Rock. The rest of the song was bad, but that part just made me cringe. Too bad he can't sing King of the Road every week.
I wish they'd eliminate everyone but Fantasia, LaToya, Jennifer and George. :royal:
Oh, and how inappropriate was Jon Peter's happy, smiling rendition of Rocket Man? That's not a happy song.

I'm crazy about George - he's just so endearing. John Stevens has such a distinctive voice, but at this point, he's not Idol material. Maybe in a couple of years he'll be able to figure out that he's not Dean Martin, and develop his own style.

Deep breath-let it out...ok. George completely won my heart last night. He is da man.
Fantasia is a blast and will get a contract no matter what as I've said before. LaToya will also.
Jennifer...she really isn't a "pop" star. She has amazing control and amazing power, but I would be exhausted by the end of one of her concerts. She's almost in the classical realm of style and I could see her as a broadway diva.
Diana needs to de-cute-a-tize herself. I cringe when she comes out on stage.
Jasmine...oh so borrrrrring...sorry.
Camille-Simon is absolutely right. Get a vocal coach and you'll rule the world.
Oh so sad, so sad, it's a sad sad situation...who let John Stevens pick THAT song. Besides the fact that it's the only Elton John song I personally loathe (bad roller rink memories), someone with wisdom, such as Elton himself could have/should have suggested a different route. If he is not voted off tonight because people are tired of Camille instead, he can at least leave with dignity after Big Band night next week.
And JPL...not so good, but amazingly cute to look at last night. :wink2:

My vote? Put Amy back in! I was gone on vacation and come back to find the most interesting competitor gone. I would have canned Camille, JPL and Jasmine long ago and replaced them with Suzie (Orange colored sky) and Scooter girl (who didn't make the finals).
I love George- all around nice guy. Fantasia is in her own category, as is John. LaToya was a cross between Hale Barry and Gladys Knight- just beautiful. Diana and Jennifer are both very good, too. Top 3 have to be the ladies of color. George and Diana round out the top 5.
When I was in Tucson, I saw the most amazing performer. She had an amazing voice and was drop-dead gorgeous. When I talked to her after the show, her fellow performers said that American Idol didn't want her because a) she was married and b) she didn't have a criminal record. (I hope they were joking about b). She belonged on Broadway or somewhere other than Tucson! She'd blow away at least half of the people in there now.

All I can say is, if I was Fantasia, I would be totally insulted to be placed in the same group with the 2 John's tonight. I'm glad Camille left, she was in my pick of bottom 3, along with the two Johns.

Camille's a cute girl, she's bound to have a great career ahead of her. I would have picked her also to leave.

Randy said it best when he said some people were voting for personality, that is apparently why Jon Peter is still there. Camille was a good choice. She didn't have the personality to overcome her shakey voice.

Ok, I wanted Camille to say "Aloha", but I cried anyway because she was so freakin' emotional.
Heh, heh...Johnny baby gets to swing with the Big Band! And JPL...well, he's way more interesting to watch than Diana or Jasmine.
Alrightie then...

IMO, JPL and John Stevens should have been loooooooong gone. The "tween" female vote (Is it ages 8-12?) is extremely powerful, as we can see from the voting. The tweens need a school year crush till the end of May. Last year, it was Clay, but he certainly had the talent to back up the votes. This year they have two boys to giggle about for a couple of more months who clearly lack the talent to be an AI.
Amy and Matt were far more talented than either of the two Johns still in there. But working against them, Amy was female and Matt was quite a bit "older" looking compared to the other males and probably not as appealing to the female tweens. Camille is weaker than many who made it to the top 12 and rightly so should be one of the bottom five voted off, although I think she has much more vocal talent than either John. Jasmine did not belong in the bottom three last night.
I think the finalists need some additional assistance in selecting songs. So many of them pick songs that are too low for their vocal range, and they end up fading or hitting notes a bit flat on so many songs.
In the end, I think the ones who should be in the final 4 or 5 will prevail (George, Latoya, Fantasia, Jasmine, and Jennifer), but the tweens have really skewed the voting at this point.

Just heard the radio this morning and they were talking about the show. A woman called in (no youngster) and gushed how much she LOVES John Stevens and voted for him like 50 times. People like her will keep him around for a while.
JPL needs to put his little dance back in! He was criticized for it but he has the most fun and it showed on stage.

I'm completely disgusted with the voting public right now. JPL and John Stevens don't belong in this competition. While I agree that Camille hasn't done well, I think a big part of her problem is a complete lack of confidence. I could walk into any karaoke bar in the US and hear people sing better than JPL or Stevens. I was happy when I saw those two in Group B with Fantasia...I just thought for sure that one of those completely less than mediocre crooners were going to go. Don't get me wrong, I think Fantasia has a powerful, great voice...but her attitude sucks. It's one thing to be confident; she's been downright cocky and mouthy. Someone should clue her in that she's no more special than anybody else. She used to be one of my favorites, but her snotty attitude has now turned me right off. My choice would definitely George Huff....great attitude, fun to watch, and a great, different voice. Hopefully it will be him, LaToya and Jennifer in the final three. They deserve it, as they are never off key and can sing everything well. I want JPL gone and John Stevens ASAP....don't belong there; never should have been there. If I want to watch a monotone Frank Sinatra copy, I'll go to Vegas. As to JPL, WTF?? I don't get it; boring voice and stage presence, pitchy much of the time; little or no vibrato or style. I've never missed an episode of any season of the show, but last night I was even more disgusted than when Tamyra got voted off before Nikki in season 1.

I don't care for Fantasia either. She may hit her notes, but her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. JMHO.

I can't say I was impressed at all. I love Elton John and I was so excited at the beginning of the night. I honestly don't think that Fantasia can possibly sound bad, so I liked her. LaToya and Jennifer did good, too. And of course my fave, George rocked as usual! I think he has such a contagious happiness about him. He is so fun to watch and listen to. :) All the rest, I could have done without hearing that night.

simmi5, You mentioned that you weren't happy when they voted off Tamyra in season one, is that who sang a song off her album last night? I couldn't think of her first name but last name is Gray. Whoever she was, that song was beautiful and so is she, combined with a lovely voice, made my DH & I wish we hadn't missed the whole first season. Very, very nice!!
Much better than a lot of these idols right now.

ITA with what you have said! I am probably one of the very few people on this board that adored Matt and I was sooo upset when he was voted off (still kick myself for not voting that night), instead of Camille. Folks we could have gotten rid of her two weeks ago and not had to put up with her warbly voice and the pouty attitude. Needless to say I was jumping up and down when she got the boot last night. I know I should probably feel some compassion for a 16 yr old (or however old she is), but she does need some training not only on her voice but in the nerves dept. and how to at least look like she wants to be up on stage.
Do I think Matt would have been the AI winner? No, but I do believe he does have talent and hope to see him soon! I just loved the way he exited, so gracious. And I was screaming at the TV when Amy left last week, what are people thinking?
I do think Jennifer has great talent and I feel that she has become humble over the last few weeks. I can see her more on the Broadway stage than doing a pop tour. I totally agree with simmi5 about Fantasia's attitude, it totally turns me off to see anyone so cocksure of themselves and start mouthing off to people (she didn't do it this week, but prior to this). It's one thing to have faith in yourself and a totally different thing to be obnoxious.
I'm not a fan of JPL, just not crazy about him or his hair (please tame it or cut it). Maybe he isn't picking the right songs for me to appreciate his voice, I don't know. I do know he doesn't need to dance anymore. John Stevens, I think with some time could have a career in music, but it is so hard for this kid to get out of the box that he has trapped himself in.
George, Lord he has a voice! I love how he is soo excited to be there. I do think he needs to incorporate a few new moves. Jasmine is so pretty and I really like her voice. LaToya for me is a cross between Gladys Knight and Oleta Adams. She is so dignified and gracious and very pretty, really like her. Finally Diana is so darn cute, and I think she will make it in the biz.

it's sad to see camile go, but i'll admit it's probably the right time for it. although she has improving weekly and slowly conquering her nerves, it still wasn't enough to stay in the competition. i also think john and jon should've left before her, but that's another story. camile has a great unique voice, looks great, and seems really sincere. with some training i think she could definately make it big.

Ever since Tuesday night I have been humming and singing Eltons songs.and I cant stop lol.
On Wed. show they did sing my fave though, does any one else think John Stevens should have sang Daniel instead what he did,I though he sounded really good. Its mostly Georges song I keep humming and/or singing.Take me to the Pilot, bounce bounce,Take me to the Pilot.

Finally chiming in. I had to tape both shows, and just got a chance to watch them last night.
I think George, Jennifer and LaToya were definitely the right choice for the top three. Fantasia's performance, I would rate as 4th, so this week, the middle group was where she belonged.
Totally agree that JPL and Jon need to go soon, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for Jon. I guess it's cuz I have two sons myself.
I was THRILLED that Camille was finally voted off. Not to be mean, but it was torture listening to her week after week.
Fantasia definitely rubs me the wrong way. It's one thing to be talented, but to be talented and egotistical about it is a big turn-off. I suspect that she will not be the ultimate winner, because her personality turns a lot of people off.
I like Diana's voice, but she's too perky and....what did Simon say one week? Sort of programmed to perform.
Still holding to my choices of George and LaToya for the final two; and I think the winner will be GEORGE! :supstar:
