Ok, fans, 15 minutes to Idol!!! Should be interesting hearing these kids singing country. I've been a fan of country music for years, so I'm really looking forward to it. Hard to imagine Fantasia and some others singing this format, but it'll be fun to see their versatility.

Where are all my 'Idol Buddies'!?!? I was very pleasantly surprised tonight. Diana started it off with a bang, and Amy finished off the night super strong also. I really didn't care for Matt's song, and I thought Jasmine was a bit weak also. LaToya and Fantasia rocked as usual. .......anyone else have any thoughts on the performances??

I think they are all wonderful singers. However, Jasmine was weak tonite. I also thought that ( I can't remember his name) (red hair) guy. great voice, just in another era. I think that a chick will win this year. The guys don't have it.

Country is not my favorite genre by a long shot, but as usual, Latoya rocked out, so did Fantasia, and I really liked the choice of songs little john went with in Roger Miller, even though he forgot the words, he covered well. Diana proved she can sing anything and so did George. I like Camille's voice. Amy can flat get with it no matter what she sings. All in all, with the exception of Matt and Jon Peter, (neither of who's impressed me so far), I think all of them did well despite {blah} Country! ick. Little Jasmine picked a boring song but ya gotta love her,- she's so cute and she has hit everything else right on. I wonder what next week's theme will be. :gvibes: :sing:

I agree with you 100%. I thought Jennifer was a little weaker this week, but I didn't agree with Simon when he said she wasn't as good as the others. He seems to think Jon Peter has a good voice. Well, I suppose he does, in a high school musical kind of way, but he is really out of his league when you put him up against talents like Fantasia, Amy, George, Diana, and the rest (meaning I just had a brain fart and can't remember their names  ). He does have a lot of personality, though and is a nice looking young man, and may garner more votes because of that. Over all, even though I am really NOT fond of country, tonight's music was very enjoyable. :)

I agree the gals have it this year. I can't see any of the men winning if it was my pick. With the exception of John the men I feel are showing their personalities which keeps them continuing. John has a voice that reminds me of Harry Connick Jr. but he still seems young and doesn't have the confidence. Jon Peter is blah. George has the best voice of the men. I like 4 women the best Fantasia, LaToya, Diana and Jasmine. I just saw that Kimberly Locke is going to be performing her new single Wednesday on Idol. My Mom and her friend are going to see Clay and Kelly in concert tommorrow night in Omaha. I'd go to but I don't live there anymore. I thought Simon was nit picky tonight.

Country night was fun! First off, I wish Paula and Randy would let Simon finish making his comments!! Arrggh. Simon rarely interupts them when they speak, so I thought it was rude...and I'm not usually a fan of Simon. I just want to hear all 3 judges speak :)

Diana was cute and bubbly, and you can never go wrong with a Martina McBride song! Latoya and Amy were great and very energetic. George put me to sleep, but he has a nice voice.

Fantasia was just OK in my book, because I can't get over her nasal sounding Macy Gray voice. And it bothers me when contestants get an attitude and talks back to the judges, like Fantasia "putting Simon back in his place" then thumping her chest Tarzan style.

For the first time, I actually enjoyed Jon Stevens! Sure, he flubbed a line, but I couldn't really tell anyway. I thought he hesistated to take a breath or something.

Jasmine bored me...a shame, because I really enjoyed her last week. Very pretty in her red halter dress though. Pleasantly surprised by JPL's song. It sounded pitchy in the beginning, even to my untrained ears, but was amazed that he could pull off a song like that, without the usual gimmicky flailing arms and dancing.

Are Paula and Randy dating? They seem extremely chummy with each other, holding hands, mirroring their comments and sitting so close, Paula is practically in his lap. That said, what was the Paula/Simon open-mouthed kiss with the porny music in the background about?!

Well I absolutely hate country music the way some of you may hate KISS, so having said that...I was pleasantly surprised. :)

Amy was amazing and she said she's never sung in that genre before. How WOW is that? Jasmine was weak. My little JPL picked a song I really didn't like. Matt was actually good. And I have to tell you...I love that Roger Miller tune John Stevens picked because my daddy (who's from NC), always sang that tune around the house.
I'm not going to make a prediction on who goes this week. I'm getting too attached to all of them.

This year nobody's doing it for me really, maybe Amy or John Steven's, but so far kinda boring, same ole, same ole sounds to me. I just like watching Simon! LOL! Love him! :)

I thought LaToya, Fantasia and Amy were the best tonight. Usually I agree with-and I'm afraid to admit it, LOL-Simon. But tonight he was wrong about Amy-she was great! I'm not into Country, but even I knew that she did justice to that Dixie Chicks song! I guess it's just that I prefer how Randy and Paula treat the contestants, since Simon is often too cutting and mean. But dang it all...a lot of the time I find myself agreeing with his picks though not his mean comments. He is entertaining though! :cool2:

I thought George was really good. I didn't like they way Matt sang "Amazed" I think Josh did it better last year. I just can not listen to John Stevens sing. I always have to change the channel when it's his turn. I just don't see him as the next American Idol. I thought Amy did very well also.

i'd say out of last night's performances, latoya was my favorite. i'd really like to see amy and her pink hair win though. :D :b

 WOOT!! Ding Dong Matt's gone! He totally bored the heck out of me :sleep2: Now if they'd drop-kick Jon-peter-paul whatever his name is out the idol doors i'll be a happy camper. The rest of 'em can stay awhile. JMO

I've decided that I'm not attached to Matt, Jasmine, or Camille. But I am attached to JPL, John Stevens, George, Fantasia, LaToya, Diana, Jennifer, and Amy.

Here are my random thoughts...Jasmine and Camille have great potential, but they are young and need some refining work to become superstars. The raw talent is definitely there.

There is something about JPL that is so endearing, that although he's not in Clay's league, I would hope his personality wins him some sort of acclaim. (But I doubt he will will AI).

John Stevens has a really sweet soul for a 16 year old boy. By that I mean he actually hangs out with his grandparents. I would have been embarrassed to death at 16 to do that. ( I was your typical shallow teen-so shoot me). The cool thing is that he is not typical. I hope Harry Connick Jr. takes him on tour.

George deserves to be AI. He sings from the depth of his being. He's not ashamed to say, look America, we lived in the projects, but our love of each other kept us happy. Another rarity.

Fantasia will get a record deal without being the American Idol. I think LaToya would also.
Diana is great, but we do not need another Kelly Clarkson out there making Beach Blanket Bingo movies. I'm sure she'll be offered something as well.

Amy...gotta love her. Her country vocals rocked, actually. But I think she would be great in a theatre setting, where she could sing, but also be funny.

This is the first year where I feel like at least eight of them should be "discovered."

;) Very eloquently put Mare, I agree with everything you said 100%. Even the Jon Peter thing, while I like him in that he's a cornball & all, I will be disappointed if he actually wins over the 'real' talent. After all, the competition isn't about personality, it's about singing talent. That said, I think he'll get something out of the deal along with the others, just on account of his endearing personality; & in all fairness to him, he CAN sing okay. :grin3: :wink4:

I missed last nights show-I was watching Survivor! :(

Now that I've found out that Matt is gone, I have to say that I'm not surprised. He just didn't have a stand out voice IMHO. But, that said, I think he would make a fantastic actor. He really reminds me of a young Bruce Willis. He has a swagger and a fun devilishness that's not egomaniacal, but rather fun and infectious-again like Bruce. I hope some casting agents in Hollywood can see that in him. :cool2:

I also wanted to add that I just don't get JPL at all. I don't think he's cute, I don't think he can sing, and he's annoying...not endearing like Matt was. So why is he on AI? :nono:

LaToya, Fantasia, and Amy are the best. :sing:

George has great potential and heart-I like that about him. John Stevens fits the Harry Connick mold almost to a T (sorry but Harry is much more handsome). Jasmine and Diana are good too. I think with more training to bring out more of their voices, all 4 of them could have solid singing careers.

Matt's departure was very classy, and funny when he started singing to Simon. :D He handled it really well and it looked like he was prepared to go.

Diana is good but I don't think she has the "star" potential some of the others do.

They should really just give the title to Fantasia right now. ;)

I think Kelly Clarkson was contractually obligated to do that awful movie, poor thing, LOL....

Well, I was right last week about Matt, but very WRONG about Amy! She impressed me a lot! Great voice for Country! I never did think that Matt was in the same league with the others; his personality was the key to his staying in as long as he did.

I, like some others here, am a big Country fan, but I must say, what most of them did wasn't "overly Country", which is fine. When I heard that it was going to be a Country theme, I somehow couldn't picture some of those folks being able to manage that genre. (I was wrong again!)

I agree with Mare that George should be the AI. But I do like a lot of the contestants, just in different ways. Diana has become one of my favorites.

I haven't quite figured out what's up with Jon Peter. Sometimes I like him, sometimes I think he's terrible.

I have to say, I'm really enjoying this season so far. :cheer:

I really like George too, but if I had to choose the AI right now, i'd have to go with Latoya. She's got one of the most beautiful voices i've ever heard, she's got fantastic stage presence, (you can tell she sings in her own band), she totally owns the stage, and she's a classy lady, she seems very mature for her age and she's got this quiet confidence without seeming egotistical or presumptuous. Plus she's more than proved she can sing anything. It also doesn't hurt that she's very beautiful, in a Halle Berry type of way. :yesyes:
IMO, this year they need to choose someone who gives justice to the title of American Idol, unlike previous years. I didn't watch the first season so I really can't say anything bad about Kelly Clarkston, but she didn't impress me in the least with that song she sang on AI the other night. My DH has seen her on some other show & says she can sing pretty good though. And Ruubbeenn Studdard may be a big 'ol teddy bear & a nice guy & all, but he doesn't fit the image, and his music does absolutely nothing for me. Last year no-matter what genre they were singing, his songs all sounded alike, almost monotone. Clay is the REAL American Idol. Now there's a man who can sing! Heck, IMO George Huff outshines Ruben's vocals anyday. :cheer2: :smile10:

Carla Fae, gotta say I agree with you. I didn't watch Season One, either, except for, I think, the finale. Kelly doesn't do much for me. Totally agree with your comments regarding Ruben and Clay. Clay definitely is a STAR. :supstar:

I didn't mean to leave LaToya out of my comments. I think she's wonderful, and, like you said, classy. I would not be one bit disappointed if she won the whole thing.

I thought Amy and Diana just were AWESOME!!! I couldn't believe Diana was in the bottom 3.....that made me mad. She sounded soooo much better than red head kid - whatever his name is. He bugs me and is SOOOOOOOOOO not "American Idol". :mad2:
