Well I just went to www.dishnetwork.com and saw what they had to say. Either REALLY raise our rates, or just drop them. I'm jacked, though. I have a little boy and he LOVES Nickelodeon. And no MTV or VH1???? Good Lord....

From what I read in earlier reports is that the reason DISH dropped Viacom owned channels is that Viacom was trying to charge Dish 3x more for access than other carriers. I think that this stupid corporate greed is way out of hand! Our home heating bill is 75% higher this year, gas prices are on the rise, wages are down, and good luck finding a decent job these days! GEEZE!!!!!!!!!

Here I am trying to sweep for half an hour while my baby watches noggin and the station along with mtv and cbs etc are off the air so now I have PBS on and I am being forced to watch BARNEY which I SWORE this child (my 4th ) would NOT WATCH.
viacom wants to raise rates so dish turned them off in protest.
i think I will sue viacom for a billion dollars in emotional damage.

My hubby and I purchased a dish network satellite system. We still have it but since we moved to a different apartment, we can't get the signal because of the direction our apartment faces and we aren't allow to have satellites outside of our patio area. We have cable now, but we would prefer the dish since it is cheaper than Cox Communications. Oh well, there is always Direct TV and VOOM TV.

I hope they get this resolved soon. Damn Viacom/CBS. They were probably trying to hold DishTV hostage. Gosh, the Dish Bill just went up about a month ago.

I've seen the warning on MTV2 for about 2 weeks like KB said. We were thinking about switching to Dish because comcast is just piggy, but we'll have to see how things work out.
Gotta have my MTV2, they're showing Bevis and Butthead reruns!

I have a friend that works for Dish, and she said they were in hard negotiations with Viacom for awhile over this. Viacom was going to charge Dish a buttload of money to keep their stations, and Dish wouldn't go for it because they would have passed it on to the consumer and were worried about people dropping Dish because of raised rates. But I think Dish will lose A LOT more people over this than raised rates.

Ok does anyone else have dish network? Because viacom wants to charge dish network more for their channels such as nickelodeon ,vh1,mtv,cbs and comedy central dish networek isnt running programming on those channels which for those like me who only get the basic package is a nice percentage of the channels and you know they arent going to give any kind of discount for their customers and who knows how long this is going to last the least they could do is give us one or two movie channels or something until they get our reguler channels back oh well thanks for listening

Dish is only offering 1 dollar off your monthly bill for loosing all of those prime channels, I told them you just cancel my subscription untill you get this resolved.
Enough ppl start to cancel they will work it out.

I have 2 recievers. One for me and one for my son.
90% of the time he watches Nick
90% of the time I watch MTV, so this really sucks for us, those are our two main channels! He was so miffed this morning, I thought he was gonna freak out. Hope it's resolved soon!

I have Dish Network. It doesn't bother me that those channels were removed. I didn't like MTV and those kind of channels anyway. Just so long as they don't take my Hallmark or TBS or Lifetime I don't care.

I've been a dish customer for a long time but if this isn't fixed soon
I will be calling direct tv. My 2 year old daughter had a fit today
because she could not watch Dora or Blue's Clues. They better do
something quick or I think they will lose alot of customers.

I agree. They are both playing a mega highstakes game of poker, and I think Dish is going to get the brunt of people's frustration. Viacom is far from perfect (and I know plenty of folks that think Viacom is straight up evil) but Dish will take the fall here, I think.

If you read what Viacom has to say about it...They say they only want 6 cents a month more from Dish. Dish just raised their prices last month by two or three dollars. I went to the Dish website and there is a link to email them with comments. I sent them an email, I will be cancelling and switching to DirecTV if it is not fixed soon! Also, why are they telling customers to call Viacom! Sounds like their problem to me, but Viacom is telling people to call Dish and complain. What a mess! :frown3:

I was watching the call in with the owner of Dish last night (channel 100) and he was saying that if it was just about 6 cents a month per subscriber, he would have jumped at the chance and signed the deal with Viacom. Viacom want to raise the price to such an extent that it would increase our bill by 25% and he has decided to take a stand against a bully. It still means we lose out by not having certain channels but I can understand why he's doing it. :)

So glad we have DIRECTV and not dish network now.
Direct tv did just raise our bill by $3 a month though. I was sort of upset about it because the info of what's on/what's going to be on (this episode is about blah blah blah, these actors are in it, etc.) is pretty much non-existent now and I used to love that feature. Charge more and take something away... sounds about right to me!
Still thankful I'm not a dish customer though.
