Maybe, just maybe, all lot of those that are unemployed are the telemarketers that are not ringing your phone off the hook while you eat dinner. That is just my opinion. What do you think?

I think it's all the people who used to work for Federal social, economic and environmental programs that Dubya fired. Then again, it could be all the people who lost their jobs to International Offshoring/Outsourcing (another thing Dubya supports).
That's just *my* opinion
Anyone else have any OPINIONS?

NAFTA getting signed & passed didn't help matters much either.

All of the above. Plus I think our education system has a lot to do with it. Secondary education is just too expensive for most people. :worry:

Many people displaced by 9/11 especially in the airline, travel and tourism industries. Also the outsourcing of jobs.

Guess what? I am a flight attendant who was based in New York and scheduled originally to work on Sept. 11, 2001. I ended up taking a flight back home to Florida (practically all flight attendants and pilots 'commute' to work or their base) late the night of Sept 10, 2001. I consider myself damn lucky. Strange... I JUST got laid off exactly 2 years after Sept. 11th happened. You would have thought they would have done it sooner, right? Well, they tried to save our jobs as long as they could and my airline, while we were fortunate enough NOT to lose any passengers or planes, had to do what they needed to stay alive. That meant laying off over 4000 employees. I happen to collect unemployement from the state of NY, even though I live in FL. (For flight attendants, we can collect where the airport we are based at is physically located, if we choose.) While I am currently unemployed, if I were to take any kind of job I wouldn't be able to collect anymore. Frankly, I get more on unemployment right now than what a lot of jobs out there pay. So, to answer your question, NO... I'm unemployed, but NOT calling your house as a telemarketer! Gawd, I did that for one week in college and you couldn't pay me anything to do that ever again.

My opinion is that a lot of telemarketers are still employed because I still get quite a few calls during dinner.

Are you on either your state's or the federal "Do Not Call" list? I was skeptical, but since I was on it, I haven't received a call.

Heather, you were one of the lucky ones, and I am glad you were spared 9/11. The government subsidized the airlines to help them stay afloat. Unfortunately, many small travel agencies went under, and now it is even a harder struggle for the ones who survived.
Many of the airlines are doing the outsourcing thing, I think Delta may have reconsidered. The outsourcing of jobs will be a big issue in the election. But I am as guilty as the next, because I expect to pay low prices (or that's what I can afford), and shop at stores where if you found something made in the USA, you would have to dig to find it buried beneath a pile of goods made in China.

Yes, but we get still get rouge telemarketers calling us. I think they don't care if we are on the list or not. :worry:

Well, not just telemarketers. There was a telemarketing company named "West". They would advertise in the paper every week for telemarketers. I remember delivering their checks to them one Saturday, via Airborne. Anyway, they closed sometime last year.

I think it's the "DO Not Call List" that's cutting back on your telemarketing calls, if you've signed up. I actually did and I haven't gotten a call in a long time.
