So much has been made of Janet Jackson's right breast exposure during the Superbowl halftime. Poor Ms. Jackson's right breast. They're all so shocked! shocked! Like people had never seen a breast before. Don't we get treated to near-nudity when J-Lo appears on an awards show? Weren't there ads for erectile dysfunction in between acts? Sheesh! Janet was forced to make a heartfelt apology, and was banned from the Grammy Awards, but her co-rippee, Jason Timberlake, was allowed to appear on the show. They treat him with near-indifference, while Janet was castigated for not protecting her "virtue." At least we know that her now-familiar right breast is approximately the same color as her face, a certitude we cannot apply to her brother.

And then there's Martha Stewart. Poor Martha seems to have fallen apart over her legal problems. She looks tempest-tossed, like she has just hosted a soiree for 600 preschoolers. I agree she made a shady stock trade, but so what? I'm sure there were hundreds, if not thousands, of similar trades made, worth far more. I am not a fan of Martha in particular, but I have sympathy and feel a double standard was applied to her, especially when *real* crooks like Enron's Ken "Kenny Boy" Lay remain uncharged, relaxing in his multi-million dollar mcmansion, bought with the shareholders' stolen money.

I think I would have been grossed out MORE to see Michael's breasts. Hopefully, we will never have an opportunity for certitude on that issue.

I agree with your rant on double-standards. I have a dim gut feel that Martha may really be b**ch when the camera's aren't rolling but it's very vague. There are plenty of men that are far worse than I imagine she might be and they don't get this kind of treatment. There is definitely something driving this we don't know about I think. Even if it turns out that Martha mistreated the "wrong" people, I doubt it warrants the retribution. I saw the hatchet job on her starring Cybil Sheppard and I couldn't believe it. I was disgusted by the stench of its trumped up theatrical evil.

Poor Janet wasn't banned from the Grammys. She was told that there was no problem with her appearing if she apologized for the misbehavior during the Super Bowl. Same with Justin Timberlake. The difference is that Janet told the Grammy "powers that be" that she wouldn't apologize, and JT said he would. So she was out and he was in.

By the way....I thought his apology was lame, but at least he did it and got his face on the TV. Janet didn't, and it may appear to some that she is hiding for whatever reason.

But they were both given the chance to appear.

I feel exactly the same way about Martha. You put it so well Sweepy. I think Martha is probably guilty of taking that "dump your stock" call-and I think it would be hard for anybody not to do it, much less someone who worries over her wealth the way she does. I also think she lied about it- but GeeZ!!! Bernard Ebbers and kenny Lay destroyed lives with their blatant theft!!

And Ken Lay's wife has the nerve to cry poor mouth now-they lost so much- when they had been selling their stock and squirrling money into policies while encouraging their employees to buy more Enron stock.

Ok-don't get me started-I just know to many people personally who have been ruined by those crooks-yeah, Martha is the Big TIme!!

i saw on Scarborough Country that CBS almost lost there broadcast license over the JJ thing. now that seems like a bit much,i'd like to think it was a honest mistake, but jeez,if they had i'd miss out on my CSI!!

Martha, well, from what i've heard she wasn't exactly a nice person to people, but if i had been in her shoes and they said the family was selling stock, heck,i'd say sell too! it was a $50,000 mistake,i'm sorry for the people who bought it but there are much worse thigs in the world then that
