Anyone here ever been to the Dominican Republic?

DH has been to the Virgin Islands, Bermuda and the Bahamas, I've been to Cancun. I shopped around and an all-inclusive resort in Punta Canta was the most economical, while still a deluxe resort. It seems very nice but want to hear first hand if it's nice or not. Travel agent said it was the best unknown spot in the Caribbean (and I still have to sell DH on the idea)--so what do you think? Here's a pic of the resort we liked, the Fiesta Beach Resort & Spa....Orbitz.com for 6 nights, flight, all inclusive, trans. to resort was $1080 per person in August...

I'd also recommend checking Apple Vacations online vacation packages. I did a quick search for VA to Punta Cana for six nights in August, and the Fiesta Beach Hotel shows up as $898.00 (per person incl air). We went to Cozumel through Apple, and they were wonderful. There was always an Apple rep available to talk to, plus reps at the airport both ways.

My In laws have been a few times and have done the all inclusive thing. They had a FABULOUS time!!! I think it was last year. They called us from the beach. It was dark out and the hotel had set up a giant TV outside so everyone could watch the superbowl lounge around and drink free tropical drinks :smile9: And here we were in Chicago freezing our footsies off!!

Anyway, they live in Germany and strangly enough its less expensive for them to fly there than it is for us to fly there. :jet: :jet: I think it is a popular place for Europeans to vacation.

The Dominican Republic is beautiful, beaches about perfect. Not familiar with that hotel, but you can check it out below.

Hope you get to go and have a wonderful time. We stayed at the Melia Paradisus, and I would go back.

My Mom and Dad, who also live in Germany have been several times and loved it. It's a big vacation spot for Germans and has been for years.

My dad went the first time about 15 years ago and the last time just a couple of years aog with my Mom.

Beautiful beaches, good food lots of sun shine.

What more can you want at this time of year??

A friend went last year and loved it! But did say it is awfully hot there in the summer!! Looks like a great time though

My dad and stepmom are going there at the end of this month. The old principal at the school I worked for had been there a few times and she said it's her favorite place to travel to.

Thanks for all the info, peeps! I'm sold. Now, how do I talk DH into going? (We are currently fighting a credit card thingy his ex wife did after the divorce that they are trying to make him collect on and he wants to get that out of the way before even thinking about it. Loooooooong story).
Ignaramoose, thanks for the info about Apple. I can't fly out of my home city (Roanoke) from them so I was going to get the lowest price online and call my travel agent, ask if she could match or beat it--they usually try to. So at least it's cheaper that way!

So everyone cross your fingers for me. Of course, if I win a trip I won't have to worry about it! :supstar:
