I occassionally post here, but I do read a LOT of them. I don't know why, but there are certain things that bother me, and just thought that I would vent!

1. When people respond to every post in the winner's circle, but with the same comment/graphic every time. (Woo Hoo! You Rock!! Glad to see we had a winner in the family! :gift: :gift: ) I don't know why this bugs me so much. I think it's great that we support each other... I just think that the "genericness" of the comments take away from the meaning. It's like when your friend sends out a Christmas card to you. If they send you a handwritten one with a personal message to you and your family, you may treasure it more than if they send a copy of the Christmas newsletter that they sent to you and every one else you know. I think the sentiment is more evident in the personal one.

2. Like many others "shouting" bugs me. I THINK IT JUST HURTS MY EYES WHEN I AM TRYING TO READ THE POST!!!!! LOL!

3. Along those lines is when someone capitalizes every word in the sentence. I Would Think This Would Actually Take More Work For Them. You Have To Press That Dang Shift Key Every Time You Start A New Word. This Also Messes With My Mind. It Slows Down My Reading. (Gad, that was harder than I thought it would be. I think it cut my typing time in almost half!) Haha.

Just thought I'd share. Have a good night!

It would be nice to have a little sticky thread at the top of each forum that explains some of the nettiquette. I have seen a lot of people here that are pretty new to the whole internet scene, so they just don't know the in and outs of posting, but they are willing to learn.

My big post beef is the "I'm leaving because..." Then everybody responds (including me), a new flame war begins and Brent has to intervene. Please, just leave. Thanks, and goodbye.

More annoying, however, is what gets posted in the Notes. I go in there strictly for information, but I know if it's a gay-oriented trip I'll see "What the Bible says about homosexuality is..." Then people respond and a flame war beaks out, and more blah-blah-blah about the Bible. If it's a Canadian only sweep you will see "Canada only... rats..." then blah-blah-blah from six more people. (Now why do I read those notes at all if I'm in the U.S. of A? Their annoyance inspires me to post another Canada only sweep to annoy them.)

Anyway, the junk in the notes make it difficult to find the info. Thanks to all the knowledgeable people who give answers, BTW.

The ones that annoy me are the people who come to a hot thread and then proceed to start with the "this is a sweep site" and blah, blah, blah!

If these people Only wish to see sweeps-do Not come to the other forums! Am I suppose to Care that someone takes the time to come to a forum they 'claim' they have an issue with only to say this is a sweep site and that other topics should not be allowed? If they Really feel it should only be about sweeps why the heck do they bother posting their thoughts about the fact that the post has nothing to do with sweeps! Gezzeee. Why do they even read anything other than sweeps if it bothers them sooooooo very bad?

 :cheer5: Being disabled and feeling like death-warmed-over most of the time and wanting to wish as many winners as possible congratulations I'm jumping up and down posting my "GENERIC" congratulations to any and all of the winners that I am able too!!!! At least I let them know I'm happy for them even though it is the same congrats I give to pretty much everyone. Hopefully they know that as "GENERIC" as the post is, it was done by my hand each and every time with yet another keystroke that I managed to peck on my keyboard originally (at that moment), just for them. Typing the same thing over and over gets boring no doubt, just as your reading it seems impersonal too you, but it's the thought that counts in my book and I make a great effort to congratulate as many winners as possible!!! :cheer5:

All I know is, when I win something (how rare that is though) and I make a thread about it,
I love the comments, generic or not. :smile9:

Just wondering, to the people who "genericness" annoys, does it annoy you in real life when people always ask generic things or give the same old tired answer? ("I'm doing fine, how are you?" etc.) I find myself saying things like this all the time out of habit it seems like. I mean, I could be having one of the worst days of my life but if I see somebody and they ask me how I am doing I will answer the same way I would if my day was great. Does anybody else do things like that?

Oh, and the only real time I get annoyed at someone on a message board is when the person states something as a fact when it's only an opinion.

Faye, don't feel bad about using the same "fine, and you?" and the like. Politeness and boring old etiquette are part of what holds society together, and having the most original answer to "How are you?" isn't necessarily a good thing! Most people don't want to know how you are *really* doing when they ask that (and I know there are exceptions, I'm talking about acquaintances met on the street and such), it's just a conventional politeness. And the last thing they want to hear is "Terrible! We had to take my dog to the vet, and then my car got a flat etc etc.". "I'm fine, thanks for asking!" is always a good response and you can use it however often you wish. :gvibes:

I think it's similar with the responses in the winner's threads. I'm sure some people are trying to rack up posts, but others don't want to have to be original in every single post....sometimes, a Congratulations! :cheer7: is what they want to say. I don't think it makes them any less sincere, just maybe not up to the task of finding an original thing to say in the umpteen zillion winning threads.

I pop in and out of the site during the day. I might only have a minute or two. I try to say congratulations to the new winners I see. I found that to be very nice and supportive when I joined this site. I do it to make the winners feel good. Sometimes I come up with something original. Most of the time, i try to at least say congratulations.

I, unfortunately, am one of those people that capitalize. Sorry about that but I type for living. It would take me much longer to not type capitals than it would to just type normally. There are probably several others like me on the site.

I must admit when I saw the original post several days ago, I was a little hurt. I have never really participated in a forum in the past, and I am not really sure what the the "rules" are. I am willing to learn to a certain extent (like not typing in all caps, etc.). If I am out of line on a post, I would ask that Brent or one of the Moderators tell me. I have not been here that long and I am still trying to learn everybody's personalities.

The original post is just one person's views on what annoys them. I'm sure you'll find things that annoy you in posts, too! We all have our quirks and styles, and we're bound to annoy someone at some point. Except for me of course, because I'm perfect. :encore:

A good majority of the genericness results from folks who are trying to push up their post numbers to make master, senior master ,etc. sweeper. I said a good majority NOT ALL ...when you just joined 4 months ago and your already a senior master sweeper odds are you were Generic posting ...I think you probably shouldnt get another "post" under your belt for a smilie though.

however I do think as long as someone is recognizing your win whether with words or smilies that you are being congratulated and the person was just being nice...

And the capitilizing every word while annoying is not the end of the world, we all do things that annoy others, things we don't even realize...Happy Sweeping!

Sorry, but what bothers you doesn't bother me. I must admit I've been guilty of all three. :) I've used all caps to emphasize a word, and I've used caps at the start of each word to emphasize a paragraph. And yes, I post similiar congratulatory posts. I don't post to every winner, usually just the big wins just to let people know I'm happy for them. Frankly, I don't have much more to say than "Congratulations" at that moment. If it was me, and I was the big winner, I would just be happy that people cared enough to take a moment to say "Congratulations!".

I really feel that trying to communicate on these forums can be difficult and that's why people, myself included, try to word things so that they will come across as they would if it were real speech. It's not so easy to do unless you want to sound like a novel, saying it like this:

"I agree!" I shouted loud enough to wake the neighbors.

Emoticons work well, but they don't convey every emotion or every nuance in communication.

What bothers me the most on posts is that people sometimes don't take the time to proof read what they write, to see if it makes sense! Worst of all are those that have run on sentances that turn into paragraphs! Talk about annoying and confusing!

That said; lets all-myself included-remember that nobody is perfect!
Just my :twocents:!

The generic congrats don't bother me. I personally like getting the congrats when I post a nice win. People outside of sweeping don't understand as much those here, how exciting each and ever win is, because "outsiders" don't invest the time that we do.

What annoys me are people who complain about their prizes, becasue it wasn't exactly what they were expecting ot was slow getting to them. I actually have people blocked for that reason, so I no longer have to read their complaining about everything they win.

I am grateful for each thing I have won. I have written one letter asking where a prize was after not receiving it after months of waiting and that was due to this person requesting others to help write to the promoter.

This is one of the reasons I love this site. People may or not agree with what I posted, but it leads to good discussions. These things may annoy me at times, but obviously not enough to make me want to stop reading! LOL. This site is the best!

Elainmir, I liked what you said about those who post so much so quickly that it seems like they are just trying to rack up posts. I think that's why my 1st point-the commenting the SAME thing on every comment bothers me. Eh no big deal.

And it wasn't anyone in particular that prompted my "vent". I just noticed a variety of trends that I see in posts. I know I'm guilty of annoying people too. Both on the boards, and in real life. But it's all good. Uniqueness is variety, and variety is great!

I think it's great that we support each other...

In posting your thread laced with arsenic, and possibly alienating about 50% of the OLS community, I'm surprised you overlooked the most flagrant offenders of all, the "CLICKERS". The clickers are a fringe, right-wing radical group of OLS'ers that were recently profiled on America's Most Wanted.

Clickers have distinctinctive signatures. They extort "clicks" from all who read their posts. "I wanna go to New Orleans, so click here" is a prime example of the intimidating methods used on victims. Clickers have been tracked in every state by the FBI and internationally by Interpol.

If you're emailed by a "clicker" don't respond to them, or reason with them. They are armed, mean-spirited and dangerous! Just pick up the phone and call 1-800-I'M-NOT-CLICKING !!!

If you can't reach a phone, you can divert the attention of the clicker by typing "Congratulations!" :gift: until help arrives!

CLICK HERE! (http://www.online-sweepstakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106720&page=1&pp=15) LOL

What TheCatLady said. Clickers, the bane of OLS.

What's worse is feeling stupid after you "click here" on someone's post and realize you've voted for them whether you wanted to or not. And feeling stupid after you click on the "DO NOT click here" on OLS's front page (we need a poll on how many people have clicked that thing!)

You don't even have to click on the OLS "DO NOT CLICK HERE". It tells me almost everytime I'm logged into OLS that I clicked it and I haven't. I haven't even been near it and it's highlighted that I clicked it. Hubba hubba I must have a haunted PC...LOL!!!!

Hey, I'm sorry if I offended anyone by asking them to help me win a contest. I kinda thought that this site was for that reason... to support each other so we can be winners. Whether that's providing answers, links to new sweeps, or anything similar. That's what drew me to the site in the first place. I came looking for help for the Aspen Gold Rush and found out what a great site this was, and how most of the people were spectacular as well. Besides, last I checked, you can choose whether to click or not on a link in someone's message. It all depends on if you want to be help that particular person on that particular contest.

I started this post only to make a lighthearted comment about things in general. I didn't attack anyone in particular. I didn't feel that was needed. When I made the comment of "I know I'm guilty of annoying people too. Both on the boards, and in real life. But it's all good. Uniqueness is variety, and variety is great!" earlier, I didn't realize I was opening myself up to others who DID want to single me out as an example... I thought that it would be better to add my "clicker" in a signature rather than in a post that I would continually bump up on a daily basis. I answered to posts as I usually do, and hoped that if people wanted to, they would click. I didn't win anything, so it doesn't matter anyway...

I still enjoy this site, and will always continue to post. Overall, I like the reason this site is here. It's my favorite board in which I'm a member!

In any case, I again apologize if I offended anyone here. I didn't mean for anyone to be hurt, or feel that they were "bad" or "wrong". I pick up on things that people do whether they are writing, talking or whatever. And since I read here a lot, I picked up on several things. Silly me, I thought that I could come to the "vent" forum and write a few things that were on my mind.

Nobody's offended ... Well at least I'm not. I was merely suggesting that you won't win any popularity contests or "clicks" by posting threads that alienate "clicking" constituents -- Get it?

You can attract more "clicks" with honey than with vinegar. Maybe posting a few of those generic congrats threads that you find annoying might help!

I'm a very enthusiastic person so almost every sentence has an exclamation point after it instead of a boring old period. Sometimes I proofread my posts just to change some of the !s to .s. As a writer, I find these forums very entertaining and am impressed with how well most people do write.

One of my pet peeves is using 2 for to and 4 for for. That sort of thing. It's okay for chat, I suppose (I hate chat) but it really doesn't help much in a message. It takes me a lot longer to read.

Thanks for the interesting thread. Venting is so relaxing. Helps you to put things in perspective, don't you think?

I agree with "Nsearch Of". I only have so much time on the computer and would love to have more time to be a bit more creative with kudos and congratulations. I try but just can't do it all the time.

I think that saying a simple congratulations on your win to someone who is excited about having just won is great, (even if some think it's generic). I certainly appreciate "generic" replies to anything that I've posted. It shows that someone actually took their own personal time to reply and be thought of. I would never be annoyed just because someone said the same thing over and over.

I will try to remember your pet peeves when I reply to your next post.
