Why do people enter trip contests knowing full well they cant take them............I enter trip contest with full ententions of going............I bet half of them don't even go to a second chance drawing. :mad2:

Being a person that this has happened to just recently, I might be able to add a little insight. I won a trip to New York recently. I had full intention of going, but then I got called to jury duty. I can't be two places at the same time. LOL I think some enter because they are thinking they will never win the grand prize but the prize they are really interested in is one of the smaller prizes. There is a wait time from the time you enter, and when they pick a winner. A lot things can change and quickly, for example a person's health might go down, might be unforeseen family problems, etc. JMHO It's a not great feeling to get all excited because you won, and then have to turn it down. Then again paying taxes on a $5000 trip that you can't use do to events beyond your control wouldn't be logical either. May you find many wins in your email box. :)

I wanted to vent on this same exact thing! There was only one prize which was the trip! They were complaining that it is to far and they cant get off of work! They have up to a year to take the trip. This is the only kind of thing that erks me about this site. People just enter anything just so they can win something. To many times I have heard " What is it?", "What am I going to do with this?", Or my favorite "Who are these people" as in I am trying to win concert tickets and I don't even know who the heck they are. Please for the Love of Pete stop entering the dang contests you really have no interest in!!! Also, I am sick of people having to post that they won their 15th wallet and then to hear nothing but complaints on how cheap it looks. My wife won one and I won one. One went to my 3 year old daughter and the other to our 3 year old neice and they love them!

Maybe they're entering in hopes of a second or third place win, and not the grand prize.
Also, it could be that they do want the trip, but when it is awarded, personal circumstances keep them from going.

I have looked at the dates of a lot of trips and known they would not work. I say that is too bad at another time I would like that trip and pass on it. I have entered a few with great prizes like video cameras, digital cameras for other prizes. I would LOVE to win those. Usually if it is not a trip for 4 to a place I want to go I just pass on it. There are tons of contests out there and each one is not for everyone. At the same time, you have the same right to enter any contest that you come across as anyone else. You might be planning on selling or trading, or taking the trip. Good luck to all.

My rule of thumb is not to enter sweeps trips if I know I wouldn't want to or couldn't go. I pass on trips out of the country and cruises because I wouldn't go. I skip the trips to New York because that just wouldn't be me but give me Florida or Las Vegas and my bags are packed!!
I not only skip on entering trips but other things too. I have no use for a guitar and I know there are those that would love to win one so I don't enter in hopes of giving someone who wants one a better chance.

I don't enter sweeps with trips as the only giveaway, unless it is close by..Like the Lake Placid ones or trips to the Finger Lakes area that could be driven to. But if there is a 2nd or 3rd prize in a trip sweep and I would be interested in it for one of those two prizes, I will enter the sweep, and if I won the trip I would turn it down and it would probably go to the next person in line.

I feel it is fair to get a cash settlement out of a trip win that you cannot take for whatever reason. If the sponsor does not want to give the cash they have the option of not giving it. Simple as that. I do not enter for trips unless I fully intend on taking the trip or unless it states in the rules that it does have a cash option.. I also will enter for a trip win if they have other smaller prizes I would love to have. Right now I am pretty much only entering for trips to Disney or anything all inclusive.

I don't enter the contest that have trips as the grand prize unless it is a trip w/in my local area. I don't have the time to go on a trip. I agree with people not entering if they know they can not take the trip. I can also say though that if they has a second place prize that I really wanted... Not some lame thing but a really great second prize I might enter it. I lways tell my Mom about the really good trips and have her enter them because she can go on them. She gives me the prize if she wins something different than the trip. A system that seems to work for us.
