And no I don't mean money. My DS had a nickel test done as he has had exema for about 3 years. Just on his hands and where his pants snap. Took the tape with nickel on it off his back this morning and he definately had a reaction. Which means I need to find out what foods and what dishes have nickel in it. Besides my cast iron frying pans which have to go. If any has any idea or has dealt with this I would appreciate any info.
Thanks

I get a skin reaction to some watch bands that have nickel in them, a blistering itchy rash. I have put clear nail polish on the back of the watch band to keep the metal from coming in contact with my skin and this worked but had to be reapplied sometimes. This might help with the snap or button on the jeans. You could also sew a small bit of cotton behind the snap to cover it. As for food, I do not have an problem with any, it is only a contact reaction.
My sister was not able to even wear any metal frames on her glasses until just lately when they started to make them nickel free. For the watchband, you should be able to find stainless steel backed watchbands, or even velcro for a sports watch. He should be able to wear 14 k gold or sterling silver if he wants. Talk to the doctor about the food--I am not sure that is a real problem, it may be for some people with more severe allergies.

i have a nickel and other metals allergy, have a heck of a time with glasses and i never wear jewelry or watches.i hven't had much trouble besides that, when i had my piercings i just used gold jewelry(make sure not plated,it wears off and then you get the itchy goopy rash)and i make sure my glasses have plastic frames and no metal touching my skin.i used to do the clear nail polish trick on things, but never had a problem with jean buttons. i need to remind my dd's ped that i wanted her tested for that since it runs in the family.

Yes, I am allergic to nickel - contact dermatitis. It's harder for a woman, I can't wear any earrings because most contain some nickel, even the gold ones. I can wear my 14K gold wedding rings, but a 10K gold ring I have gives me a reaction.
I have had luck wearing a stainless steel watch. Before that I wore a Swatch which was a plastic watch (but I covered the metal battery with a band-aid). Have him not wear a watch until his skin gets healed and then try one with a stainless steel back. Like the previous poster said, cover the inside of the snap on the jeans so it won't rub onto his skin.
This is a very common allergy actually.

I'm allergic to nickel also. I have no problems with food. I use clear nail polish or hair spray on snaps, jewelry etc that comes in touch with my skin.

Thanks for the answers and ideas. I found a site that told about nickel. You wouldn't believe the food it's also in. Chocolate, canned vegetables, broccoli, peas, greenbeans, nuts, dried fruit, canned fruit.
