I have been experiencing severe lower back pain on my right side for a couple of months. It's worst of all in the morning when I wake up, and requires a couple of ibuprofen so that I can sit in a chair and have breakfast. The pain tends to ease off during the day, and it only bothers me while sitting.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Hey Sweepy...

I hate to say it, but you should really see a doctor - for anything that bothers you for longer than a week.

I went for about a month with lower back pain on one side and it turned out to be a kidney infection - that was really a mess trying to clean up. That was the only symptom I had for weeks - back pain, and then suddenly woke up one night with a ridiculously high fever.

It could also be a pinched nerve or anything really.

If it's gone on that long you should definitely make an appointment.

Hopefully, it's just a strained muscle or something.

Go to the doctor!! If you have pain in a specific area like that for more than a day or so, it needs to be checked out. You said it was back pain, but the appendix is located in the lower right side of the abdomen. The pain might be spread out and bother some people more in the back. If it was the appendix and it ruptured, it is life threatening. It could be something such as a strained muscle and it could be easily treated. You don't want to let it go if it is appendix or kidney problems. Taking meds like ibuprofen for more than a few days per week can actually cause you to get severe headaches and other problems. Only a doctor can tell you what the cause of your pain is. I hope you get treated soon and feel better!!

Sounds like degenerative disc disease to me...but you will never know if you don't go to the doctor. Go!

Please go to a Doctor---

I had bad back pain on my lower right side for a few weeks, it got to the point, I couldn't stand up straight, I went to the emergency room, where they found a blockage in my lower intestine, I was in the hospital for 6 days, it was awful...

Please see a Dr to rule out anything serious~

It feels more like a muscle spasm than those other dastardly things. The pain is actually not in the back or the abdomen but just above the rear end. You know, right under the hip bone. I think it may be the result of sweeping and not giving my lower back any support. I tend to slump in a big, old chair and pound away for over an hour at a time.
