I'm trying to plan a vacation to S. Padre Island and wanted to know from anyone that has been there is it fairly inexpensive? My family and I would probably go in August, we are mainly interested in the beach. What are the inexpensive yet decent hotels. Was thinking that if I could get one with a kitchen that would cut down on food expense.
Any suggestions would be welcomed! Thanks!

I LOVE S. Padre!
You are going to have SOOOOO much fun! That time of year might still be a little crowded, so book early!
Go to www.sopadre.com You can find lots of great info (and a contest!).
Since my father moved to corpus christi I haven't stayed at a hotel for years, but I do remember staying in some very big, reasonably priced, ocean facing resorts during our vacations. Food is ChEaP! Stay away from 'name brand' kind of places and go to out of the way - local places. Advice, if it smells like bad fish, find someplace else to eat! The only time I have ever gotten food poisoning was from places where it just didn't smell right when you walked in the door. There are lots and lots of great seafood places all down the island.
And don't limit yourself just to S. Padre. Go into Corpus Christi and explore the Aquarium. That place is too cool. Next door to it is a big battleship that has been dry docked and turned into a museum that you can explore. There is, on I think the first Saturday of every month at the colliseum, an arts and crafts fair. Lots to do there!
Have fun!
