My brother past away 2 days ago at the age of 44. The family is trying to find a nice song or two to play at the funeral, so I was wondering if anyone could make a suggestion of a song title that might be good. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks :drip: :drip:

Country - I'm real sorry to hear about your brother passing away, our condolenscenes go to you and your family at this time.
What types of songs are you looking for? Did your brother have a favorite type of music?

My sympathy's for your loss - I know it must be very hard especially at such a young age.
In being in attendance of a couple "young" services
For one they played REM - Everybody Hurts
For a 15 year old who died in a car accident they played his favorites
Theme from Star Wars and Staying Alive from Saturday Night Fever - this was very touching to me.
For my uncle they played his favorite church hymn
Personally, I think depending on the family sometimes the music is reflective of the individual and sometimes it is to bring comfort to the family and friends.
My thoughts will be with you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Don't know if you are familiar with Vince GIll, but this is a lovely song. My cousin played it at her twin brothers funeral.
Go Rest High On That Mountain
By Vince Gill
I know your life
On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain
(Chorus)
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son
Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the angels' faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing
(Repeat Chorus)

My husband is 44. We talked about it once on a long car trip. We decided on Stairway to Heaven and In the Arms of an Angel from City of Angels
So very sorry about your loss. Condolences to you and your family.

No songs titles came to mind. But I did want to express my sympathy to you and to your family for losing such a close family member at such a young age. :grouphug:

Depending upon the family and individual's personalities:
Three Wooden Crosses - Randy Travis
Sand and Water - Beth Nielson Chapman
For a sound clip: http://www.bethnielsenchapman.net/songs/sandandwater.html
(see lyrics at the end of this e-mail)
The Dance - Garth Brooks
Angels Among Us - Alabama
I Can Only Imagine - Mercyme (I think is the group's name - it's a Christian music group)
All alone I didn't like the feeling
All alone I sat and cried
All alone I had to find some meaning
In the center of the pain I felt inside
All alone I came into this world
All alone I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water, and a million years gone by
I will see you in the light of a thousand suns
I will hear you in the sound of the waves
I will know you when I come, as we all will come
Through the doors beyond the grave
All alone I heal this heart of sorrow
All alone I raise this child
Flesh and bone, he's just
Bursting towards tomorrow
And his laughter fills my world and wears your smile
All alone I came into this world
All alone I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water and a million years gone by
Beth wrote this replacement third verse for Elton John...
All alone I heal this heart of sorrow
I can only live this day
Flesh and bone my life's bursting toward tomorrow
And the love you send my heart still finds it's way

My uncle passed away when I was a teen and he was only 20. He played guitar and loved the song "Can't Stop the Rain" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song had special meaning to Rick, but I will always remember it being played. You might give it a listen to see if it fits with your bother's personality. I am very sorry about your familiy's loss. :(

Ditto on Karen's suggestions. I lost my brother-in-law on June 3rd and his daughter, my niece, unexpectly past away on June 8th. My niece use to frequent a Karakoe bar, so bar patrons sang both The Dance and Tears in Heaven at their joint memorial service.
:drip: :drip: :drip: I am so sorry for your pain!

I'm sure whatever you pick will commemorate his memory perfectly . I know this is a difficult time and my heart goes out to you and yours. I wish there was more that I could say besides I'm sorry.

I am so sorry for your loss. I agree with Karen -- Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton is a wonderful choice. I would also suggest trying to pick something fitting in the genre that he really liked if you aren't a fan of Eric Clapton. My condolences to you and your family.

A pretty song with a twist at the end is "I love you this much"-I think it is a country song.
So sorry to hear of your loss...

Thank you all who came through in a time of need. You helped so much during this hard time. My brother's funeral is tomorrow and we decided to use the songs: Go rest high on that mountain-by Vince Gill, and Please Remember-by Leann Rimes. Making a selection was alot easier thanks to all of you who offered suggestions. I'm fairly new to this site-been here about 3 months, but I learned quick that the OLS members are kind and caring people. God Bless You.

At least that day is over. Once the services are over you can begin to work on healing. I hope you are doing ok. Sorry all this happened at all.

My sympathies on the loss of your beloved brother. My friend Sandy passed away in November and her famiy played The Dance by Garth Brooks and I miss my friend by Darryl Worley and there wasnt a dry eye in the chapel because the music was a reflection of the kind of person Sandra was. I am sure you will do the same thing with your brother...God Bless your family.
